The credit system is a joke
The first thing to know is that, despite the name, this site is not for finding someone to travel with. This is a dating site of a sort, but it is obvious that the girls are controlled and manipulated in what they can say or do. I have had girls send me a flirty message that, after a few days, simply disappeared. I assume some moderator probably removed it. The second problem is that the, as has been reported here, girls are either reluctant or unable to move conversations or video chats to a different site where such communication does not require credits and can be done at no cost, like Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp. I think most of the profiles are probably genuine, but the credit system is an absolute joke and a ripoff. If you opt for the lowest payment tier of $60 per month, you can easily use up all your credits on one video chat. And everything you want to do, from sharing pictures, sending messages or gifts, to any kind of communication, everything requires credits, and often a substantial number of them. Apparently TravelMates is part of the same company that runs Cupid, at least it seems to be affiliated in some way, and oddly Cupid does not work in the same way. In Cupid you pay a monthly fee, around $35 or so, and you can access the site without restrictions. Granted, Cupid is pretty basic, lacking video chat and similar features, but it is also substantially cheaper, without restrictions, and does not feel as if the girls you are communicating with are being incentivized and to keep you talking so that you will spend more money. If you do sign up, renewal is automatic every month, but unlike Cupid, there is no billing screen where you can turn off auto renewal. You must contact customer service in order to cancel. This is the reason I will not sign up for this site.
