The writing was not on the wall...
Directions on the can are not very explicit; you have to go online to the company website "FAQ" section for useful tips. Main issues... 1. The instructions on the can do not include a drying time between multiple coats. 2. The instructions on the can do not include tips or information for base coating on porous and/or dark surfaces. What I learned... 1. If possible, place the surface being coated on a flat surface or else otherwise orient it horizontally; doing so helps avoid runs and drips. 2. (If covering a chalkboard or similar surface) Clean the surface, and then let it air dry; apply a white, oil-based primer to the surface, and then let it dry completely; use a foam applicator rather than the 1/4" nap roller the can suggests - the foam applicator will help avoid streaking. Basically, I shouldn't have to tell anyone these things in a customer review. The company needs to provide this kind of information on their can; they can use a pull-out label to fit more instructions and tips, other products do so. My chalkboard is now a relatively effective dry-erase board, but it looks ugly with run lines, and the original dark green color is not completely whited-out after two coats (two full cans = $$$).
