Thank you for your feedback. It is our understanding that the vertical uprights fold down against the crossbar and stay in place when you reinsert the pin . This may not be completely flush with your crossbars, however that shouldn't affect the overall clearance because they'll still be shorter than the ladder stops bolted onto the crossbars. We'll still forward your concern on to the manufacturer for their review. We appreciate any feedback that helps our manufacturers continue to improve their products' design.
