Almost impossible to cancel. They charged our company for 4 years after we initially stopped using their service, and requested cancellation.

Thanks for reaching out and for your feedback. You can cancel an auto-renewal any time from the Licenses page of our site using the 3-dot menu item on the license card (https://www.wordfence.com/licenses). We're also happy to help with that if you reach out to us in support.
Thanks

A complete horror show
A complete horror show. My fifteen year old web site is gone because of Wordfence. It locked me out of my own web site. It is so complicated to unlock they made long video telling you how to unlock it and it still doesn't work. Wordfence refuses to help because I have the free version. But they gave me some steps to follow. They suggested I ask my provider to help. My host tried to follow the steps and it does not work. Wordfence refuses to help any further. I've had Wordfence for a few years now, and this is not the only problem with it, stay far far away from this company. They have no compassion for you what so ever.

Blocking me from accessing course material I PAY FOR!!!
Trying to get into a subscription study system that I PAY FOR and constantly locked out by frigging WordFence. It's terrible. I literally cannot access my study materials because this POS keeps saying "You have been temporarily locked out of this system. This means you will not be able to log in for a while". This is also stopping me from registering for exams with the same organisation THAT I PAY FOR and if I lose my place, this could cause serious knock on effects, delays and extra expense.
Response from WordfenceJun 14, 2024
Sorry for the inconvenience.
The temporary block you were receiving may be due to failing the login and exceeding the allowed number of attempts that the site owner has set on their site. In some cases, a site owner may make the login settings too strict and cause issues with users and members accessing the site content. Unfortunately, in those cases, you need to reach out to the site owner to have them unblock you and check their site settings.
Thanks,
Wordfence

Absolute shambles of a paid support…
Absolute shambles of a paid support system, I've been a Premium subscriber for a number of years and for the first time ever I have had to open a premium support ticket as Wordfence has repeatedly blocked ourselves and other users accessing our own website. My ticket is still yet to be resolved since opening it nearly a month ago and my last response I've received was 12 days ago. How can they charge for this atrocious "premium support ticket" system.
Response from WordfenceJun 14, 2024
Hello, Kit.
Thanks for reaching out, and I'm sorry for the delayed response you received.
We do our best to get back to all Premium customers within 24 hours during business hours, Monday-Friday. Generally, we're able to do so more quickly than that, however, there are times when we need additional time to work on issues.
I see we were able to review your diagnostics and we got back with some recommendations. Please review that and get back to us there if you still need any help.
Thanks,
Wordfence

I've made a good 540 plus websites and…
I've made a good 540 plus websites and WORDFENCE should now be called SCAM FENCE. Since around July 2023 all signup for free version ARE NOT FREE!
Wordfence STOPS and require purchase of premium. WASTE oF TIME. DEFENDER much better for free version and a few others. Not sure who at WORDFENCE decided to go scam but no way to run a company.
AS of FEB 03 WORDFENCE STILL REQUIRES PREMIUM TO USE. Set up 2 new sites and same SCAM. Receive a major warning screen with this new MUST PAY plugin that Wordfence is not set up. Weird you respond with the BS because this has now happened with around 25 DIFFERENT installs in the last 6 months. Tools used to be free. Set up parameters were free. Just not live updates. Now says you require premium license on ever single new site install

Thanks for reaching out.
Wordfence still offers the same great protection for free sites as we always have and Wordfence does not require purchasing Premium to use the plugin. The process to use Wordfence Free is outlined in our video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uU43V3gnL9U If you have sites already using Wordfence Free successfully, there is no need to obtain a new license with the process there.
The steps to use Wordfence Free are very simple and just require downloading the plugin from your site (or WordPress.org), activating the plugin, and acquiring a free license. You acquire the license via email where you have the option to install the license automatically or install it to your site manually.
If you need help with the licensing process, please reach out via the WordPress.org forums where we'll be happy to help.
Thanks,
Scott

Worst security experirence of my 25 year career
We upgraded after I saw admin accounts that didn't belong to us were present for 2 weeks.
The person assigned didn't realize we already had wordfence basic around $90/year and had upgraded to about $490/year. Not a great start.
Then they get all our info, which was far too much info to be giving them for what they do, a wordpress security plugin.
After correcting their employee two more times they came back and said they would refund me and not fix it unless I deleted things our server requires for certain plugins to run.
I knew already they weren't infected and also knew that these things were beyond the scope of what wordfence is. These are core services and standalone scripts not even in a web directory at all.
The employee argued with me and then their manager put me down and implied I didn't know the basics of permissions which hadn't even come up before.
They offered to refund me again and I pressed saying they needed to find and fix the actual infection. To which they ghosted me and now I'm doing a charge back.
I went with Malcare, who I can see is gaining market share from them. In less than 12 hours they found two vulnerable modules and one of them was hacked. I upgraded the modules. I was in contact with about 5 people for diff issues and all were prompt and they got me setup so fast and back on track. They do their job. By the way they never tried to get me to delete our shipping service and I get daily updates on their scans.
Malcare is cheaper, their support isn't rude and knows what they're doing, and their plugin actually found and fixed a hack Wordfence went 2 weeks with nothing and I found we were hacked myself due to new user accounts that shouldn't exist.
In short, Wordfence seems to only care if you fit into their majority audience of making you feel safe if you have a server with only wordpress and nothing else on it. If you dare to have an actual business and server they will try to pawn off any excuse they can to say it isn't their fault. And then they will be rude to you and ghost your refund request.
Don't buy Wordfence at best it's a feel good blanket that does nothing when the rain comes.

Hello,
Thanks for your feedback. I reviewed your case and see that ultimately your site was not compatible with Wordfence Care and Response due to having multiple additional applications on your server. We have provided you with a complete refund of the upgrade and initial Premium cost. I see there was initially a misunderstanding regarding your upgrade to Wordfence Care when we mentioned we will configure the plugin for you, which is standard for us to do during the audit process. I see that made you believe that we were not aware of the fact that you were previously using Wordfence, which was not the case.
When it comes to Wordfence Care and Response, due to the amount of hands-on work we do to make sure a site is completely clean and stays malware free, we will not work on servers where there are additional applications that are not isolated, will not be protected, or will not be included in the initial audit. Those applications pose a security risk and could ultimately cause the site to be infected again in the future, or be the source of the infection and issues you were having to begin with.
I'm happy to hear you resolved the site issues, and again, we appreciate the feedback.

this is more like a scam company
this is more like a scam company, I have my normal virgin broadband from UK, I visited a website that continuously blocked my ip but their logo is there so you can search for them, as a visitor I would never visit a website that blocks me for normal page searching, I mean you can't expect someone stays too much on a webpage if is not interesting or I couldn't find what I looked for, and blocking a public IP from an internet provider just for navigating you just make me mad and people who implement your plugin in their websites are really sick, your plugin is not accurate and time-wasting

Thanks for your thoughts about Wordfence. Just to confirm, you don't have Wordfence installed on your website, you were blocked by a website that uses our software on it?
If so, we don't have anything to do with how the user sets their blocking rules. Our default rules are rather lenient to prevent inadvertently blocking regular users like you. Site owners can sometimes excessively set the rules so that regular users are blocked too. We provide help for setting the rules to void this, as well as documentation online including walkthrough videos.
Googling for the same URL and the word "contact" will sometimes yield a phone number or email address to let the website admin know you were blocked. They can then unlock you and hopefully change the rule that caused you to be blocked in the first place.
