Gets the phone down out from the field of view thru the windshield for unobstructed vision while driving, a big safety plus! Takes a couple of days for the reusable adhesive to set. I had to remove the arm to keep the weight of the arm from tipping & pulling the adhesive off the top of the dash on the back side of the base. It was in the mid 80's every day, warmer in the garage, so perhaps the heat had some effect on this. Keep checking its' adherence to the dashboard a few times a day for 2-3 day if mounting it on top of the dash, especially if the dash is curved. You may have to press it down firmly for a couple of minutes several times to get it to adhere well enough to support the weight of the arm and a cellphone. Once it is well secured, it holds the phone with no issues.

Had a bit of trouble at first as a very flat hard surface is needed for the one's I bought, but once I got it set, it's tight. A note..if you have a protective case on your cell, I found that you will likely have to remove it if you are using a pad type charger vs plug-in or magnetic plug connector type.
