Absolutely useless “customer service staff”. All they do in defense of denials for name brand drugs is put you on hold several times during the call to READ off pages they find to “explain” their position. WellCare also LOVES to change what they cover during the year you are stuck with them because they KNOW there is no recourse for customers. They ignore coverage for BRAND drugs on doctor's order (written no less) even though you have done as they require and tried the generic version with disastrous results. They THEN claim you “need to try at least 2 generic versions”, even if there is only ONE available and you’ve tried it!!!! Where does this leave customers who simply need the BRAND drugs they have been using successfully for years (including the entire year presently in, then they CHANGE THE RULES). Quite simply deceitful liars!!! Our government needs to do something about this very common insurance practice.

72 hours pre-auth rule is ridiculous.
Apparently an end of life medication I need for comfort requires pre-authorization. It's 72 hours, doctor wrote for expedited service. They ignore that, 72 hours, period. I tried calling, explaining end of life pain med needed and could they please expedite. No. They won't.
Also, very difficult to understand representative.
Had I known this was coming, I would have found a different plan but might be stuck with these fools.

Transphobic!!!!!!! Breaking FEDERAL laws.
Transphobic!!!!!!!! Many many complaints/greviences with Medicare, CMS and "sick"care of Ohio. Always misgendered and told notes would show how to address me. Those notes keep disappearing or are not read. I have CONFIRMED notes disappeared. I am now suicidal over this kind of care. They appear to not care about me, as I truly am. No civil rights officers there to manage abusive care. They can dish it out first, but DO NOT return the civil rights abuse back!!!!!!! They will hang up! Should I start to have a lawyer????? I KNOW I have a case!!!!!! Sydney (foreign male) in escalation abused me at least 8 times in 2 calls, with files open.... as an example!!!!! I also do not get promised calls back. Yeah.... they love me..... NOT. They are clearly there for themselves.... not ALL or ANY of the public that they are paid by the USA government to serve.
11/04/25 Update: Disenrolled. 3-5 days to process through. Confirmation letter in 7-10 business days. Reason for disenrollment Misgender/abuse and no civil rights officer(s). My mental health is suffering because of these issues. I felt I had no choice. If complaints/greviences mattered, IN WRITING, along with phone calls (which they call you, leave a message to call them back, then you call and cannot reach them, then they drop the complaint/grevience), it never would have been so bad. But the abuse would remain.
Also note: Not 1 person that leaves a voice mail for you has an extension to talk to them. This is a major downfall in customer service.
They are also refusing to pay for my diabetic CGM. They ("Well" care and Optum) rather I go back to finger sticks with True Metrix or AccuCheck meters. I'm on a CGM for a reason! Cheap bastards!
I signed up thru Medicare and they quoted me $112 SSBCI/mo. This is a wrong amount for the Medicare HMO I'm on. And its only for peroxide and pills. Misrepresentation. Easy way to change outside or inside of enrollment periods. Medicare heard the misquote, as they were on the phone Oct 15th, 2025 and they recorded the call. Proof!
From what I see, "Well" care in all states-- needs to be scrapped and rebuilt around the customers it has sworn to serve. Currently, this medical insurance entity is paid by the government to abuse everybody, which is against US law, if not more local laws than Federal.

Kindergarten customer service people
This company has the worst customer service people, they all must be kindergarten or less in education.I have there insurance for Medicare and this is the worst company I've ever had. They have urgent care centers in the network (EXTON Pa.) called CONCENTRA)and this center DOESN'T and DIDN'T even have a DOCTOR and it's and urgent care center, this is criminal .My insurance company wellcare co. is very negligent calling this place an urgent care center. If your looking for a Medicare insurance company I WOULD NOT pick this company. Please read the Negative feedback and not the made up positive ones, most likely by the company themselves.

Terrible customer service
Called the company to check the status of my application as more than 10 days had passed since applying. I had to switch plans because my plan premium increased by 500% for 2026. After spending 45 minutes on 2 separate phone calls I gave up. Call center is in India and not only could they barely speak English, they certainly did not understand my question. One actually responded to me in their native language and laughed about it. Never got an answer regarding application status. I am thinking I need to find a different plan during open enrollment but all drug plans are becoming ridiculously expensive for poor coverage, and of course, government has mandated you must have coverage or risk paying exorbitant penalties later.

Fraudulent/misleading marketing letterto get me to send money
WellCare attempted to pull a fraudulent marketing scam on me. I don't know how they are getting my private Medicare information, but somehow they knew that Blue Cross is dropping the Medicare Advantage plan that I am on (I'm moving to another plan with Blue Cross during open enrollment this month).
Yesterday I got a letter from WellCare - a company I have never used or communicated with - That stated that they are my new Part D prescription drug insurer. There was a plastic prescription drug card attached that had my name and some other information on it. The letter contained the same information that someone would receive who prescribed to their prescription drug plan. It listed the prices for each tier of drugs.
The kicker was right at the end. It said to get started, I need to pay my first month's premium and it gave a P.O. box address to send a check to and an 800 number to call to pay with a credit card. By this point the whole thing was screaming SCAM because I knew I had not signed up for ANY "Part D" plan since it is included with my Medicare Advantage plan. Someone new to Medicare might easily fall for this deceptive, fraudulent marketing. Right after I mailed the letter back I regretted it; if I had thought of it I would have sent a copy to my state's Attorney General. Massachusetts does not tolerate companies scamming their seniors.
I wrote in magic market on the letter telling them to remove me from their scam mailing list; I cut up the card and I put it in t he envelope also.

Sent an application for Wellcare…
Sent an application for Wellcare Pharmacy plan. Received a letter wanting physical address. Called to give it to the...took 3 different calls, each over 1 hour, answering same verification questions and they still could not do simple address update. Requested supervisor with same results. Decided to just cancel application and that call also took over 45 minutes. Don't use them; they are definitely incompetent!!!!
