We recently changed the patty shape and added new peel-back packaging, which is why the portions are thicker and may take longer to thaw or fit differently in home freezers. Our recipes themselves have not changed — we continue to use the same high-quality meat, organ, and bone ratios. Every source meets the same strict quality, safety, and handling standards we’ve always upheld. As part of this update, we added a very small amount (0.05%) of Norwegian kelp across our recipes as a natural source of iodine and trace minerals. This addition does not change the nutritional balance or quality of the food. Because our meals are made from whole, minimally processed ingredients, natural variation and processing differences can affect appearance or texture from batch to batch. We also recognize that cost is an important consideration. Feeding raw doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing, and our Care Team is always happy to help explore flexible feeding options that may better fit different budgets. MaryBeth, we’re sorry this situation has been so frustrating. Your original shipment and subsequent replacement were impacted by weather-related carrier delays outside of our control. When severe weather affects regional hubs, carriers may pause scans or delay delivery even after a box has left our facility. We understand how upsetting that is when you’re counting on it. Per your request, the remaining replacement order was canceled and fully refunded. Refunds are issued on our end immediately and then follow your bank’s standard processing timeline. We never want a customer to feel unheard or misled, and we regret that this experience didn’t meet expectations. We do apply our policies consistently and work as quickly as possible when weather disruptions occur, but we understand that doesn’t lessen the inconvenience you experienced. While we take weather events, such as the winter storm occurring on the East coast last week, into account and take extra measures to communicate to our customers proactively, once an order is in a carrier’s possession, delivery timing and movement are controlled by the carrier. Rest assured, your order was delivered successfully within the standard delivery time frame and more details were provided directly to you via email. Hi Sasha, have you reached out directly to our team for more assistance? We take these claims very seriously and would love more information so that we can address your concerns. It's likely that what you are seeing in your duck patties is natural quill casings, or small feather shafts. These can occasionally be present in recipes that use whole-animal ingredients such as duck and turkey, which include skin and muscle attached. Quill casings are made of keratin, the same protein found in hair and nails, and are completely safe and digestible for dogs. Because we use real, minimally processed cuts of meat, there can be some natural variation in texture and appearance from batch to batch. These tiny, hollow pieces aren’t plastic or foreign material — they’re simply part of the bird’s structure. Please rest assured that this does not affect the safety or nutritional quality of the food in any way. Every batch we produce undergoes third-party pathogen testing and High Pressure Processing (HPP) to neutralize harmful bacteria before it leaves our USDA-certified facility. Additionally, all of our recipes are based off the canine ancestral diet: approximately 80% meaty meat (muscle meat and associated connective tissue and fat), 10% edible bone, and 10% organ meat--all of which is secreting organ. The edible bone is finely ground into the patty, which is meant to be consumed as part of a complete and balanced diet. Our meals were formulated by a Ph.D. animal nutritionist. Your local butcher can be a great resource but it's important to remember that not all raw is created equal. Our recipes are formulated by a PhD in animal nutrition to be complete and balanced to AAFCO standards, with the right ratios of muscle meat, organ, bone, and added nutrients. All of our meats are USDA-sourced and go through High Pressure Processing (HPP) to neutralize pathogens without cooking away nutrients. Additionally, every batch is also tested for safety so dogs get the benefits of raw feeding with the assurance that the food is both nutritionally complete and safe.
