In the most recent update to our…
In the most recent update to our insurance through my employer, they made Walgreen's the ONLY pharmacy the insurance would cover. You were required to get 3 month supplies of your chronic medications or the insurance would not cover it at all. That's a real problem when Walgreen's is constantly out of the medications you are prescribed. And we're not talking complicated, name brand drugs, just the simple generic blood pressure & cholesterol meds I've taken for decades. I never had problems filling those medications until my insurance switched to only covering Walgreen's pharmacy. They are constantly out of common medications at all the Walgreen's pharmacies in my city, while the other pharmacies are having no problems keeping up their supplies. My doctor has started sending my Rx's in a week before they are due in the hopes of giving Walgreen's time to get the meds in stock, but it hasn't changed a thing. And, of course, they can't bother calling you when they get the Rx early and tell you they're out, nope they just mark the Rx as processing and I have to call them the day before I go in to pick the Rx's up to verify they did fill them. It's about a 50/50 chance they haven't bothered to fill them yet and don't know when they will be able to. All these failures yet they continue signing more contracts with health insurance companies that require patients ONLY use the Walgreen's pharmacies to get their Rx's. America, this is what happens with little/no government regulations. Walgreen's is continuing to be allowed to sign Walgreen's ONLY contracts with health insurance companies even when they are damn well aware they cannot handle the patients they already have.
