Lack of nursing field support. Each department tells you another department handles whatever issue you are dealing with such as next practicum registration. It takes roughly a week for anyone to reply then Walden staff give the student more to do concerning acquiring practicum placement. The affiliate organizations listed are inaccurate. This has been throughout my practicum experience. I will be reporting Walden as appropriate to ensure future student success.

Being redirected between departments and slow response time without resolution during your practicum experience is frustrating. I'm sorry that this has made the practicum process feel unsupported for you. That's not the experience I want you to have. I'd really like to look into your situation directly. Please reach out to me at [email protected], so I can make sure the right people are involved.

A diploma mill rate education
Walden University presents itself as a flexible, supportive option for working adults, but my experience in a graduate program revealed significant issues that undermine its value. Course materials were consistently outdated, with readings and resources that did not reflect current industry standards. The academic rigor was far below what should be expected at the graduate level; many assignments felt more appropriate for bachelor‑level introductory courses. Instead of focusing on meaningful content, the program emphasized APA formatting to an excessive degree, creating the impression that compliance mattered more than learning.
Course structure was another major concern. Assignment instructions were often generic placeholders, and students had to wait for the professor to release the actual requirements. This lack of clarity made planning difficult and removed any sense of academic flexibility. Tests and assessments frequently felt like filler rather than tools for evaluating mastery.
Administrative support was equally disappointing. The financial aid department routinely failed to respond to emails or voicemails, leaving students without timely guidance. Additionally, the university’s status as a private, for‑profit institution is not clearly disclosed during enrollment conversations, which raises transparency concerns.
Overall, Walden operates more like a diploma mill than a true graduate institution. It may suffice for individuals who simply need a degree to meet promotion requirements, but it is not suitable for those seeking relevant, real‑world education to advance or change careers. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Walden University to students looking for genuine academic growth or professional preparation.

Diploma mill
I graduated with a 3.7 GPA. I still wouldn't recommend Walden.
I graduated from Walden University. Based on my experience, I would not recommend the institution.
There were significant issues throughout my time as a student there.
First, I was verbally quoted a tuition price that did not match what I ultimately paid. If you are considering Walden, get every financial promise in writing before enrolling.
I was also disappointed by the practicum support. I was told Walden would be actively involved in helping students locate practicum placements. When I needed that assistance, I was told the person responsible had too many students to help me. That was very different from the level of support I had been led to expect.
Since I graduated, the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) has changed its requirements regarding field placements. Under the current standards, students cannot be solely responsible for locating their own field placement. Programs are responsible for identifying and approving field settings and must provide assistance to students. I hope this means future students receive the support I was told I would receive but did not.
Another serious issue occurred when I was hospitalized and temporarily unable to use a phone or computer and was essentially unable to communicate. Despite explaining the circumstances, I was told there were no exceptions for late discussion work. I was not offered a meaningful alternative for completing the work once I was able to return. Luckily, I still passed.
Then there was my grandmother's funeral.
I had a required professor check-in scheduled during her funeral. I told the professor multiple times that I could not attend because I would be at the funeral. I had said no at least ten times. The professor scheduled the meeting anyway and told me to let her know if I could "sneak out" of the funeral.
I could not.
The professor subsequently contacted my practicum placement supervisor and stated that I had never shown up. Fortunately, my placement supervisor already knew what was happening and knew that this was not an accurate representation of the situation.
I also requested disability accommodations and provided documentation regarding my medical circumstances. I was told there was no time limit on when accommodations needed to begin. In practice, this meant I was left without accommodations when I needed them. When I wanted to bring an advocate to a meeting, I was told the meeting could be months away because, according to what I was told, "they are not held to the same standards as brick and mortar schools."
I am proud of earning my degree, and there were individuals at Walden who were supportive. My overall experience with the institution was disappointing at best.
My advice to anyone considering Walden is to document everything. Get promises about tuition, accommodations, practicum support, and academic policies in writing. Do not assume that what you are told verbally will be what actually happens.
I successfully graduated with a 3.7 GPA, so if you're looking for a diploma without an education, this is your place!
I would not choose or recommend Walden.

Disorganized, dishonest, incompetent!
I enrolled at Walden University expecting a supportive and organized graduate nursing program. Unfortunately, my experience with the Nursing Field Experience department has been one of the most stressful and disappointing experiences of my academic career.
I came from having an outstanding GPA from both my bachelors and all the classes taken at Walden.
This organization is Incredibly disorganized, dishonest in their conduct, horrible communication, and a horrible lack of assistance (specially for an online program).
No assistance with clinical placements (even though in their website and student handbook says otherwise - which brings back their dishonesty and lack of assistance) or preceptors for nursing and healthcare programs.
Very disappointing and do not recommend!
