Stay away - order vital records by phone NOT VitalChek
I couldn’t give a lower review of this company. You have no option but to use them to order a vital record online. So, they have no interest in customer service. My advice: call directly to the state office of vital records. Order directly from them by phone - save your money, I paid 65.00 to get a vital record which, 10 months later, has never arrived - and they are asking for another 30.00! It’s fraudulent and quite the scam. Trust me - stay away.

Worst company I have ever experienced
I needed a marriage certification, so I needed to send in forms authorizing them to send that record. Despite me calling and emailing them every day, they did not acknowledge that they received my forms for over a month! When I paid for expedited processing! When I finally got a person, she hung up on me. When I got one again, she sighed when I asked her to look through her fax machine (doing her job?), then found one of my many faxes. She then told me I needed to pay another $20 for shipping even though I already did. I read the receipt aloud to her and she flat out told me I was wrong, charged me extra for a service I already paid for, then hung up. Hopefully it comes in the mail...?
This company is so bad I'm nervous about sending this review to them before I get my paperwork, for fear that they could hold it hostage out of spite. Legitimately one of the most unprofessional businesses I have ever witnessed. They only get away with this because they have a monopoly.

Predatory, but "legal"
My VitalChek experience was extremely poor. I needed a copy of my California birth certificate for my new job, and California Department of Health links to VitalChek.
As is often the case when getting official documents for critical life events (new job, school, traveling abroad, citizenship, etc.), I was very anxious to get my document as my new job depended on it.
Therefore I clicked on the obfuscated legalese and 'accepted' without consulting a lawyer or fully understanding the legal standing VitalChek and its executives in Tennessee now have. VitalChek can 'legally' charge your credit card a non-trivial 'transaction fee' and NEVER give you anything, ever, in return.
Once you 'accept' these terms, you see how little they actually provide: very little, or nothing at all in some cases. If they can't expedite your process beyond what the original provider (city, state, or university) offers--they simply provide you a 'to do' list.
The 'to do' list is the same as you'd find at the original provider's website: a list of required identifying documents to be mailed, faxed, or brought in person to the provider's location. This is of course the very headache you were probably trying to avoid in the first place by utilizing VitalChek. But now, you've lost your non-refundable transaction fee, and additional time dealing with the VitalChek dead end.
I contacted their customer service and requested my Transaction fee back, they refused--pointing me to the fact that I did, in fact, check the 'I Accept' box for their legal terms.
I wonder how many thousands of people have done this exact thing: pay the transaction fee of ~$15 and got nothing in return?
Seems an eager lawyer might do some inquiry and consider a class action lawsuit. If nothing else, pressure needs to be put on these government organizations to stop linking to VitalChek as that implies some sort of vetting and legitimacy.

I placed an order 4/30/2020
I placed an order 4/30/2020. It has been 6 months and I have not received it. When I check on order status, I get generic responses via email, telling me the order is being processed. I have called numerous numbers for months and I cannot get a person on the phone. I don not know who else to contact to see what is going on with my order. My bank account was already charged and 6 months later, I do not have my order

Working to Expose VitalCHECK on Social Media
My attorney and a few groups on Twitter will expose VitalCHECK this week. There should be a Class Action Lawsuit filed as soon as possible against this company and what they are doing to the American people..I encourage all of you, who were scammed by VitalCHECK to join me in reporting this company to the Mayor/Governor of New York City, if you are from here.
Social Media is VERY powerful, and as a Registered Nurse, I should NOT have to be scammed when I did NOTHING wrong to this company.
Why does New York State direct you to this scam company to do business with??? Facebook Messenger? Is this a joke?? Does anyone know of another company that can get me my birth certificate? I believe this is being done deliberately to further frustrate people during these COVID times. Its like they are saying "YOU HAVE NO POWER", not even if you were born here, and pay bloody taxes.
I need my birth certificate to get my license in my new home state and VitalCHECK "Manage My Order" tab stated that they shipped my order 4 weeks ago. NO order came in the mail and they charged me. Why is the NYS Department of Health using a scam sight to give people their birth certificate? Haven't we as citizens gone through enough?? This is so sad and I am not sure how I can get a refund. I used this sight because I was directed to by 311. Stay Tuned.
I help people stay alive, and I will help MORE people NOT get scammed.

Rip off company.
They make it sound so easy t to do. Then once you have paid they want a ton of things to prove who you are. You cant cancel. They have a “processing fee” i cant find out how much it is. They say there are 300 different companies they use so they cant tell you. I would never use them again. Poor business.

If I could give a -10 I would do it! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM
If I could give a -10 I would do it! Rip off company that evidently hacks into google searches and lets you think you are ordering from a courthouse or records place. DO NOT FALL FOR IT! I went to local city records and got two birth certificates for $10 less than what they scam you out of for one. I immediately tried calling to cancel. Nope, due to high call volume, never did get a person. This was within an hour of ordering, finally emailed them only to get they couldn't cancel it. A report has been made to BBB, I have opened a dispute with bank for credit card charge. This company needs put out of business. To this day I haven't received anything and it has been 15 days so I am being charged for $19 shipping, $10 processing fee and $20 for a certificate that I haven't received over 15 days later. BEWARE!

I don't think I would use this company…
I don't think I would use this company again. I've read a lot of one star reviews of VItalchek on Trustpilot, and I endorse all of the specific criticisms. What I find most irritating is that they make processing and delivery time claims as a range of days, but don't explain that by "days", they mean ""business days". I made my order based on their claim of 35- 40 days for processing. I contacted them on Facebook on day 40 to check on my order status and learned that in my case, their formula calculated my wait time so far as 27 days. I made plans that I now wont' be able to process. Frustrating.
