THINK TWICE BEFORE BRINGING YOUR PET…
THINK TWICE BEFORE BRINGING YOUR PET HERE FOR A TRUE EMERGENCY I am sharing Maya’s story because I wish I had known about an experience like mine before trusting an emergency hospital with my dog. I arrived at VEG at approximately 5:15 a.m. with Maya experiencing an obstetric emergency. A puppy was stuck in the birth canal. I went to an emergency veterinary hospital because I believed that when an animal arrives in an active emergency, the hospital would be prepared to provide the necessary emergency care. Maya did not undergo surgery until after 7:00 a.m. I was told that additional staffing was needed before the surgery could be performed. The photos attached to this review were taken that morning. They show Maya’s condition as the morning progressed, with timestamps including 5:36 a.m., 5:40 a.m., 5:41 a.m., 6:34 a.m., and 6:57 a.m. Sadly, one of Maya’s puppies did not survive. I want to be completely accurate: the puppy had already been stuck for some time before we arrived, so I am not claiming that VEG caused his death. My concern is what happened after we arrived at an emergency hospital seeking urgent help and the amount of time that passed before surgery was performed. I was ultimately charged approximately $4,200 for Maya’s care. That is what has been so difficult for me to accept. If I am paying emergency-hospital prices, I expect an emergency hospital to be prepared to provide emergency care when it is needed. Unfortunately, Maya’s medical problems did not end there. In the weeks afterward, she continued experiencing abnormal bleeding. She was later diagnosed with a uterine infection and required another surgery, costing me approximately $400 more. I am not claiming VEG caused that infection; I am including it because it is part of what Maya went through following this experience. I repeatedly gave VEG the opportunity to address my concerns instead of simply posting a negative review. My complaint went through hospital management, Regional Medical Directors, and a corporate review. Their final response stated that their review was complete and that they “will not be providing further responses” to my questions. After everything Maya went through and approximately $4,600 in veterinary expenses, that response was extremely disappointing. Thankfully, Maya survived and is doing well today. ❤️ I am sharing these photographs and my experience because other pet owners deserve to make their own informed decision before they are standing in an emergency hospital with a beloved animal whose life may depend on timely care. I trusted an emergency hospital to be prepared for an emergency. Based on my personal experience, I would never bring one of my pets back to VEG for a serious emergency. If you are considering VEG for an emergency, I strongly recommend asking whether the necessary staff and surgical team are actually available before your pet’s life depends on the answer.
