One night while cooking dinner, the smoke alarm from vector went off. There was no smoke. However, vector called the fire department. Then she called my cell phone. She said she called the house phone first with no success so she called the fire department. They came very quickly which was comforting but it was a false alarm. I wish she had called my cell first because it seems my phone line is disabled when the alarm is sounding. I am concerned about if the alarm were to go off in the night and my cell is turned off, will my house phone be disabled?
Response from Vector SecurityFeb 4, 2015
Hi Brenda, thank you for your feedback. To address your concern, we first need to explain briefly how alarms work. When the control panel sends an alarm, it takes over the phone line to send the signal to us. This is called "line seizure." Simply put, we, as the alarm company, seize the phone line so that communication between your alarm system and our Central Station takes priority. If the customer does not have call waiting, we will get a busy signal. If the customer does have call waiting, we will reach their answering machine/service. This most often happens when the panel sends multiple signals. If panel only sends one signal, then by the time we call them the panel has released the line. When we receive fire signals, we attempt the premises and if there is no answer or we get an answering machine, we dispatch the fire department, since time is of the essence. You may contact us if you'd like to note special instructions on your account for us to contact you at an alternate number in case of emergency.

Our system is operating flawlessly - but when we needed service (replacing the system battery) the service was prompt and courteous. Great job.

Recently, I came home and entered the wrong password. Immediately, a security person came on and ask for my ID and after establishing my identity, very politely helped me get strightened out. Very professional. I'm totally pleased with Vector Security.
