I first met Val in 2008 when he applied to join the senior Yeomanry Cavalry Regiment in the UK. He excelled during basic training and immediately after represented his unit on the highly prestigious Cambrian Patrol competition achieving the coveted Bronze Medal, the highest the level Squadron has ever achieved. In 2012 he qualified as a civilian Personal Trainer and in 2015 he completed the (British) Army Physical Training Instructors course. Val developed a successful business where he delivered personalised training for rehabilitation and health improvement in addition to assisting other individuals looking to lose weight, build muscle or improve general fitness. Within the Squadron Val delivered level appropriate training and advice to individuals who were looking to join the Army Reserves, but were struggling with their initial fitness assessments, through to the more elite members of the unit. Val experience makes him a uniquely qualified and very competent trainer, and I still call on his skills to assist our recruits with their basic fitness levels. Sergeant M Denman (VR), Regimental Mentoring Support Officer.
