Good Work but Expensive. Beware Pushy Sales!
The ONLY reason I'm not giving this company a 4 is because the hard sell. I was especially vulnerable, and the charming sales guy drew us into a large purchase that leaves me feeling stupid and misused. I'll come back to that. The SAVING GRACE is that the company does indeed do GOOD WORK! They installed a new attic fan, air conditioner, water heater, and furnace (with new thermostat) installed all in one day, which was almost magical. These improvements will be good for my home and improve my energy bills (although not to the extent promised). The representative who later came out to do our Quality Assessment, Alan, was wonderful and reassuring; he caught several small improvements that he'll be making, at no extra charge. The company emailed me the papers that the city will need to permit the improvements, with clear instructions. We got our $3200 rebate check very quickly. So why only 3 stars? TWO reasons. ONE is simply that, when I do the math on how much it would've cost to purchase and professionally install each item, individually, it's almost $10K less than I paid USHS (I guess $7K, after the rebate). I should have taken care of one item, paid it off, then taken care of another, instead of going so deeply into debt all at once. I may have to delay retirement over this decision. SECOND is that initial sales representative oversold, and oversold HARD. In retrospect, red flags were everywhere. Why did everything have to be installed the VERY NEXT DAY? How could this possibly cut our energy bills by over 80% -- I mean, the lights and TV do also use energy. And, as it turns out, most of his not-legal-promises indeed fell flat. We do still have to use an upstairs window AC, despite our new AC and our attic fan. Our electric bill looks to be 5% less than last year, not 80%. Our kitchen sink doesn't get hot water any faster than it did with the 23-year-old water heater. USHS is not responsible for my failure to draw a boundary (I just wanted a new AC!) and stick with it. But neither is it wholly innocent (they drew me into the appointment by dangling a $5K rebate, which I didn't get). In the end, my old house has an updated HVAC system--which is a good thing--and I owe a little too much money for it.
