Business model to not pay claims
I purchased the “cancel for any reason“ policy within the required 14 days of booking my trip. Unfortunately, I had to cancel and when I filed my claim, they made me jump through all kinds of hoops. I’ve been going back-and-forth with them for months now. Finally, they said that I didn’t qualify for the cancel for no reason policy that they sold me because I had transferred money to my friend who was organizing the trip five days before she booked the hotel. So therefore I had purchased the policy 15 days from what they are considering the booking date rather than 14 days. This is absurd. If they are going to sell people policies, they need to make sure that people can actually use them. There shouldn’t be a discrepancy in how we define the booking date is. The booking date is the date that the hotel received your deposit and booked your reservation. But in order to deny my claim, Tin Leg is saying that the booking date is the date that I transferred the money to my friend who is organizing the trip for all of us. If TinLeg was serious about honoring claims they would require proof of booking date PRIOR TO taking your money to make sure that you were on the same page as to what constitutes a booking. At the point that I had transferred the money to my friend, my deposit was still refundable. It was only after it exchanged hands with the hotel, but it became nonrefundable. Clearly, their business model is to not pay Claims.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We understand your frustration and appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns regarding the "Cancel for Any Reason" policy and your recent claim experience. Our aim is to provide clarity and transparency with our policies, and we apologize for any confusion that may have occurred. Allow me the opportunity to explain the definition of the "booking date" as it pertains to our policy. The "booking date" is considered to be the date when you make your initial travel arrangements or reservations, including but not limited to the payment of any deposits. In your case, the booking date was determined to be the date you transferred funds to your friend who was organizing the trip. This is because this transfer marked the beginning of your financial commitment to the trip, even though the actual hotel reservation was made a few days later. Our policy requires that the "Cancel for Any Reason" coverage must be purchased within 14 days of this initial booking date. Unfortunately, as your policy was purchased 15 days after the transfer of funds to your friend, it fell outside of the required period. We understand that this may seem strict, but these guidelines are in place to maintain fairness and consistency for all our customers. We regret that this situation has caused you inconvenience and hope this explanation clarifies the basis of our decision. We value your business and feedback and will use it to improve our services and communication. I understand this has been a lengthy and frustrating process for you, and apologize that your claim did not have a more favorable outcome.
