This company is a scam. We had our flight cancelled in Patagonia South America. this cancellation caused ta significant loss of hotel deposits, tours, etc. The claim process is so convoluted and difficult that we give up. The agent assigned to our case was rude and dismissive. We didn't get a dime for our losses.

“For any reason” doesn’t mean “for any reason”
The plans are too specific, so even when you have an issue that would normally fall under the plan requirements, you have to complete everything exactly as specified in the conditions or else the claim does not count. Even if you purchase the “for any reason” this does not actually mean for any reason, they always find a way to not cover the claim.

Thank you for your feedback. We understand your frustration with your recent claim.
Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) coverage is designed to provide flexibility before your trip departure. It allows you to cancel your trip for any reason and receive a percentage of your trip cost back, up to a certain limit. Unfortunately, CFAR coverage does not apply to incidents that occur during your trip.
In this case, it appears you experienced a medical issue while traveling. This type of situation would typically fall under Trip Interruption coverage. However, for a Trip Interruption claim to be valid, the insured must be seen and treated by a qualified physician during the trip.
We understand that you chose to withdraw your claim. If you were seen by a physician during your trip, please reach out to reopen your claim. We hope this helps to explain the coverage and policy details. Your claim adjuster is available to assist with any questions.

Exhausted, Frustrated, and Defeated by the TinLeg Machine
I am a 67-year-old U.S. Navy military veteran, and my experience with TinLeg is one of the worst experiences I have ever had. I get that most people will not read this complaint in its entirety – it's very long. By writing this, I am not asking TinLeg for anything – I already know Tinleg will never pay me a penny. I am writing because this is one thing I can do -therapeutic effect. Also, someone may read about my experience and decide not to do business with this company.
I scheduled an international trip earlier this year but canceled my flight because my 95-year-old mother experienced a medical emergency (fall). My mother died several days after the fall.
After my mother died, I contacted Air Canada, hoping that I would be reimbursed for my canceled flight. Air Canada told me that my ticket was not reimbursable. I then contacted my travel insurance company, Tinleg. I purchased the "TinLeg Gold Plan, Policy #: 53-TLG-02E-####
Tinleg instructed me to file a claim. From the moment I filed the claim with TinLeg, I felt like I was trapped in a bureaucratic matrix. I initially provided TinLeg with the following documentation:
• My mother's death certificate
• Various medical documents from the hospice where my mother died – notice of medical elections, hospice medical records, etc
• A copy of the Medical Power of Attorney – I was the designee
• A letter from the hospice doctor stating the cause of my mother's death
• My bank records showing proof of purchase- airline tickets and other expenses
• My flight itineraries from the airlines
• Cancellation confirmations from the airlines and hotels
Note – Tinleg also requested a copy of the trip report and examination findings from the hospital ambulance that responded when my mother fell. I did not provide this information. This felt a little too invasive, and it would have taken me weeks to get this report.
Time after time, I would send TinLeg want they said they wanted, and then then they would request something else. This was a time-consuming and exhausting process. I even had a telephone conversation with one of the TinLeg representatives - which went nowhere but around in circles.
Long story short, I called Air Canada to request a refund again. On this second occasion, I spoke to a very helpful and professional agent who helped me navigate Air Canada's bureaucracy, and I eventually received a full refund.
I then revised my request to Tinleg, to exclude the Air Canada ticket expense.
The following is the last email I wrote to Tinleg in response to them, yet again, asking for additional documentation. I never received a penny from them for reimbursement of any of my expenses.
"Thank you for your email. Although your email disappointed and frustrated me, I was not surprised by your response. Also, interestingly, I am finding this process with Tinleg to be triggering an uncomfortable and unnecessary grief response for both me and my family, whom I have brought into this process for support.
At this point, I will probably continue to pursue full reimbursement for my prepaid travel expenses. However, I have also decided to seek advice from professionals who can help me navigate this customer-unfriendly bureaucratic morass (you are personally friendly, but the process is not). Before providing any additional information, I will consult with an attorney, the State of Colorado - Division of Insurance, the Better Business Bureau in Florida, and any additional avenue of support that makes sense in this effort.
I selected your company for travel insurance because of the positive reviews I read online and the outstanding ratings you received from various rating agencies. I am now questioning my decision and the legitimacy of online reviews and rating agencies. I was hoping that obtaining a refund from your company would be relatively straightforward and not overly time-consuming. I now understand that my hopes and expectations were not realistic. I have also learned from many negative online reviews that my experience with TinLeg is not rare. What I am experiencing appears to be a common strategy TinLeg utilizes to deny legitimate claims."

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We understand your frustration with the claim process and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
We want to clarify a few points. Your claim was not denied. It was closed due to a lack of the necessary documentation to support your claim. The documentation we request is necessary to determine whether a claim can be covered according to the terms of the policy. After reviewing your claim with our claims team, it appears as though we are missing medical reports. We understand your frustration with needing to submit multiple documents to support your claim. Due to insurance regulations, certain documentation is required. We understand that this may seem strict, but these guidelines are in place to maintain fairness and consistency for all our customers. As the necessary documentation was not received despite repeated requests, the claim was closed.
We regret that this situation has caused you inconvenience and hope this explanation clarifies. I understand this has been a lengthy and frustrating process for you. Your claim adjuster is available to assist with any questions in the meantime if you wish to reopen your claim.

TinLeg is Unethical - Do Not Trust This Company
This company is unethical, and it's employees' only goal is to deny your claim.
Response from Tin LegDec 16, 2024
We understand your frustration with your claim denial. We strive to provide fair and accurate claims processing, and we apologize if you feel we have not met your expectations.
We reviewed your policy and claim, and unfortunately, your trip did not meet the criteria for coverage. As outlined in your policy, a "Covered Trip" requires travel more than 100 miles from your home to a destination outside your City of residence.
While we understand this may not be the outcome you were hoping for, we are committed to providing clear and accurate information to our customers. Please feel free to reach out to our customer service team if you have any further questions or concerns.

Buyer Beware
Buyer Beware! Despite their promotional material touting their policy as “Comprehensive” and “Extensive” coverage, Tin Leg won’t cover your costs associated with travel cancellations and delays that occur during your trip. They only cover cancellations or delays affecting the initial arrival leg of your trip or the final departure leg of your trip. They do not cover anything adversely affecting travel legs in between those two events including weather delays and cancellations. In addition, they base your insurance premium on the “entire trip” costs which include the middle leg travel, hotel & event costs. This is very misleading and unfair. Choose another insurance provider!

Thank you for sharing your concerns about your recent claim experience. I understand how disappointing it must be to feel that your coverage did not align with your expectations, especially given the disruptions you faced during your trip.
To clarify, your claim was reviewed under the Trip Delay and Trip Interruption coverages outlined in your policy. Trip Delay coverage applies to delays that occur while en route to or from your covered trip, such as delays impacting your initial journey to your destination or your final departure home. In your case, because you had already arrived in Athens and the ferry delay happened two days into your stay, the Trip Delay coverage could not apply, as you were no longer in transit to or from your trip. The Trip Delay coverage can be found on page 12 of your policy document and reads: For Trip Delay: "Coverage is in force while en route to the Covered Trip from Your home and also while en route from the Covered Trip to Your home."
Similarly, Trip Interruption coverage is designed for scenarios where a traveler cannot continue or resume their trip. Since you were able to adjust your plans and continue your itinerary, this benefit could not be applied. We understand this policy language may feel restrictive, and two appeals were submitted for a thorough review; however, both were upheld based on the terms of the coverage. Language pertaining to the Trip Interruption benefit can be found on page 16 of your policy document which reads: "We will pay a benefit, up to the maximum shown on the Schedule of Benefits, if You are prevented from continuing or resuming Your Covered Trip due to any of the Unforeseen Events"
We recognize how unsettling and stressful these disruptions can be, and we appreciate the time you took to share your feedback. If you have any additional questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Totally Unscrupulous!
Holiday on Greek Island of Crete. Bad accident.....9 broken ribs, punctured lung, multiple breaks of collarbone. I had $250,000 in Medical Air Evacuation insurance. Taken to Crete Interclinic Hospital. Very small, run down hospital (have pictures of places where flooring was worn through to floor boards). I was in the "ICU" (I have pictures). This hospital is not on the U.S. Embassy's STEP program, listing approved hospitals. I had to pay my own hospital bills (10 days) on my credit card, as Tin Leg stated they would not pay because bill not itemized. I had to make arrangements with my credit card company (from ICU) to have bill paid. Hospital was going to discharge me if not paid! I called them several times regarding medical air evac.
Tin Leg NEVER called me. I received a text while lying naked in my feces in ICU that I was receiving "adequate care." I texted back asking what parameter they used to make that decision......still waiting on answer. I arranged from my hospital bed my own air evac.....Tin Leg stated I needed doctor's recommendation for discharge. Doctor claimed I had pulmonary embolism. After air evac to University hospital here in the states, the doctors told me I DID NOT have pulmonary embolism, and the Crete doctor did not perform correct tests to make the decision. My air evac team of doctors did not have a problem with me flying. I made all arrangements from my hospital bed. Had arm bound because arm I could use had IV's. Bending to use phone caused fluids not flow, alarm would go off. Nurses got tired of it. I had to become very creative to keep phone to my ear. Visitng hours were 12:15p.m. to 12:30p.m. My travelling companion could only stay longer if wiping my butt, or helping me eat. After 5 days in ICU and going to regular room I was put in diapers. I have pictures of my rear end.....I can barely stand to look at the pitted mess. My evac delayed because of the Middle East turmoil that had just occurred. I was an additional 8 days in state side hospital, then transferred to 6 weeks to an inpatient rehab, then 8 weeks with in home PT, OT and R.N. visits. Finally, 2 months of 3X week of outpatient PT. Tin Leg finally paid hospital bill months after discharge. Denied $170,000 out of pocket air evcauation. Stated Crete doctor did not approve. They never acknowledged my state side doctor's report regarding the non-existence of pulmonary embolism. I procured a lawyer. Short version.....Tin Leg states you must go to arbitration in New York City. My attorney sent the necessary information to the American Arbitration Board. The AAB replied that Tin Leg was out of compliance, including requiring a trip to NYC for arbitration hearing, among other things. Tin Leg needed to change some other language in their policy before the arbitration would be heard. Tin Leg refused. My lawyer asked what arbitration board they found acceptable. Never got answer. As a result, my lawyer stated we would have to fight the arbitration battle before considering going to court.....possibly years before settlement, and lots of money. Tin Leg offered $125,000 settlement. I asked for $150,00 and I would sign "gag" order. They countered with $130,000 for "gag" order. I refused. Settled for $125,000. In the final settlement, they still included "gag" order, which my lawyer struck out. My accident happened in October, 2023. I am just now speaking out because the check finally arrived and is in the bank. Tin Leg stated they arrived at $125,000 because that is what it would have cost them for evacuation. The final insult was requirement to sign IRS paperwork to have settlement reported as income! My travel company highly recommended air evac insurance because of the poor quality of the Greek hospital system, particularly on the islands. Tin Leg, an international travel company should certainly have been aware of this, but did not care. Also, note that you doctor must also state that they can not provide care needed. Really? How many doctors will do that? I used a large portion of my retirement to get myself state side. Good news I am alive. I truly felt I would develop an infection, etc., and die. The protocols there were a far cry from U.S. hospitals.

Do Not Buy TinLeg Travel Insurance
Do Not Buy TinLeg Travel Insurance. Paid $600 for a "premium travel insurance". I got stranded by multiple road closures in rural Italy in May 2024... everything from unannounced sporting events bocking major roads to rockslides blocking detour roads that cut off my only routes from the Dolomites/Italian Alps to the Verona airport and my flight home to the US. I missed my flight home due to closed roads, and incurred additional unexpected $3000 out of pocket in expenses in extended car rental fees, additional hotel nights, and having to rebook a missed non-refundable flight. It was impossible to speak with a live person at TinLeg on the day of the disaster... I was on hold and got transferred around for almost an hour and then told live reps were only available for medical emergencies and hung up on. For the next six months, TinLeg demanded impossible information like a detailed map and time stamps from the Italian Cycling Cup that caused the road closure, "proof" of road closures beyond the time-stamped in-person photos I already provided, and copies of private bank statements that had nothing to do with this specific travel insurance claim.
I reported the experience to my State's Department of Insurance Regulation and was told I provided all information required by law in my State. There was no basis for the additional, unrelated documents TinLeg was demanding except for harassment and excuses to illegally deny a legitimate claim. ***7 months since submitting my legitimate claim and getting denied at every step*** TinLeg is A SCAM COMPANY.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your experience and the challenges you faced while navigating unexpected road closures in Italy. We understand how difficult it must have been to manage these added expenses on your own in a rural area.
To assess claims like yours, we require certain documentation to confirm the circumstances and expenses, which ensures we can fully evaluate your situation based on the policy's coverage. In your case, we asked for additional documentation to substantiate the road closures, the expenses incurred for extended accommodations, and information regarding your original travel bookings. We understand that gathering such details can be time-consuming, and we apologize if any of our requests came across as burdensome. Due to insurance regulations, certain documentation is required. We understand that this may seem strict, but these guidelines are in place to maintain fairness and consistency for all our customers.
If there’s any way we can assist in resubmitting your claim or if you’d like further help with gathering specific documents, our team would be happy to support you.

Dishonest!! Unscrupulous!!!
Dishonest!!! Don't trust buying a policy. My flight was cancelled on the day of me taking the flight. "Frontier airlines refuse to give me the exact reason, which is needed to move forward with a claim." I show proof of frontier airlines refuses to give an exact reason. Tin leg got in contact with Frontier airlines and they said it's operational reason cause cancellation. Therefore Tinleg refused to reimburse me. No where in the language in the contract they can deny you for that. Also if my flight get outright cancelled on the part of a airline. I should be refunded the money. What is the point of insuring with your unscrupulous company. If the flight wasn't on the low scale I will lawyer up. I will make sure I forward your shady tactics to my State's Attorney General office.
Response from Tin LegOct 31, 2024
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I understand how disappointing it must be to face unexpected expenses after a canceled flight. I'd like to clarify some details regarding your policy coverage to hopefully provide some insight into the outcome of your claim.
Our policies cover specific reasons for trip interruptions and delays, which are outlined in the terms you received. Unfortunately, cancellations due to "operational reasons" by the airline, such as logistical issues or staffing, are not covered under the Trip Interruption or Trip Delay benefits. This policy design aims to focus on certain unforeseen events beyond the airline's control, such as severe weather or mechanical issues.
While I understand your expectations for coverage, the exclusions in the policy apply to cancellations by airlines for reasons not covered elsewhere in the plan. If there’s any part of the policy you’d like further assistance understanding, please feel free to reach out to our customer support team. We’re here to help clarify any remaining questions. Thank you again for reaching out, and we’re here if you need further assistance.
