I had a valid claim (flight delay, rental car costs, sick kids) and provided photos and screenshots and PDFs of Printed emails. Tin Leg kept demanding impossible documentation like forwarded emails and medical records the clinic that wasn't our pediatrician. Their claims portal documentation isn’t reviewed, and the follow up is the same we need additional documentation three different times each changing for more.
Times have changed Tin Leg no longer delivers. Look elsewhere for responsive claims handling.

When we purchased Tin Leg out seemed…
When we purchased Tin Leg it seemed like a wise choice. We travel frequently and have had claims for one reason or another with other carriers. This one is different. The entire process of a claim is to wear your out asking for more and more documentation. After over two months we have not settled on a large out of pocket claim.

Avoid at all cost
This company has done everything to avoid paying a claim - I have used several others in the past and had no problem when I had to make a claim. I was traveling with my family and this one was a little cheaper. I should have went with my gut - cheaper is not better. I wasted my money on a policy with a legit claim and they pulled every angle to avoid any accountability-
WORTHLESS - DO NOT GIVE THEM BUSINESS

Denied Emergency Surgery Claim Based on a Rule NOT in the Policy
I bought Tin Leg travel insurance for a July 10–Aug 15 trip, believing I would be covered during that time.
On July 29, during my covered dates, I needed emergency surgery abroad. Terrifying and expensive. Tin Leg told me to pay the hospital upfront (over $14,000) and then request reimbursement.
After submitting everything, Tin Leg denied my claim because I booked my return flight after I left.
This requirement is not written anywhere in the policy.
Tin Leg is enforcing rules that do not exist in the contract and leaving me with massive medical bills. This has been financially and emotionally devastating.
Travelers beware.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. The denial was based on the specific definition of a covered "Trip" within your policy. The policy requires a defined Return Date supported by travel documents prior to departure. Since your return travel was booked after the trip began, the policy treated it as a one-way trip, and coverage legally terminated upon your arrival at the destination. We understand this is not the outcome you were hoping for. If you have any further questions, please reach out to your claim adjuster via email.

Good luck filing and collecting
Quick to accept your premium. But be wary of filing a claim. They require very extensive documentation of absolutely everything, and don’t believe documentation from travel agents, etc. Despite providing every bit of documentation they request, they will weasel out of paying a legitimate claim. Will be filing complaint with BBB and State Insurance Commissioner.
Be aware, Tin Leg is owned by SquareMouth.

Don’t use Tin Leg
Don’t use Tin Leg! I took a trip in July and used Tin Leg. We had travel delays and I filed a claim in early September. They use a third party provider called Robin Assist who gives you the run around. First they said they received it. I didn’t hear back for a month and checked in with them. Then they said they DIDN’T receive it and I had to painfully resubmit everything on their submission site (not a simple reforearding of an email). Still didn’t hear back after a couple weeks so I emailed them again and they told me I only would be getting half the claim. Fine. Small print. Now it’s three weeks after that and I still haven’t gotten a check. Skip the headache and go with another insurance provider that will pay out when they should and keep on top of your claim so you don’t have to.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. A review of your claim was performed with Robin Assist. Your claim was submitted on September 1st and approved on October 16th after we received the supporting documents. When you reached out in November about not receiving your e-check, Robin Assist advised checking your spam folder and offered to reissue the payment if needed. Please reach out to your claim examiner if your check has still not been received.

Can not recommend
Had the Gold package for a family trip to Scotland. My mother, who was traveling with us, passed away suddenly. My entire family filed claims, including my mother's insurance company. This comprised of three different travel insurance carriers. To date, over four weeks after filing I am still waiting on any resolution due to an issue with my airline receipt. I was a victim of a fraudulent company that impersonated United Airline's bereavement department, making obtaining an actual invoice from the airline impossible, as this fraudulent company is considered third party (travel agent).I have provided copies of my itinerary with the price paid, copies of my credit card showing the charges, and yet they are stalling on the not having the not obtainable invoice. There was a fraudulent fee, but it has been reversed (Tinleg was updated) and I am not seeking anything other than the cost of my return flight home. Very telling is the fact that all three of my siblings have been compensated from their travel insurance companies and my mother's insurance has managed to pay her $30K of medical fees, cremation and funeral home cost, returning her to the US and the cost of remaining in Scotland for an additional 5 days in less than two weeks, yet Tinleg hasn't even finished processing my claim for the cost of my return flight home. I can not recommend this company due to the response time when filing a claim.

Misleading Coverage & Denied Legitimate Claims
I purchased a TinLeg Gold travel insurance policy through Squaremouth, and I feel that I was completely misled. My claim was denied because I didn’t return to the same location I departed from, even though I was in the country I listed as covered, and my travel dates matched my policy.
This “requirement” is not clearly stated anywhere on TinLeg’s website or in their purchase flow. Only after filing a legitimate claim did they point to this as a reason for denial. To me, that feels deceptive, as it buries restrictions in fine print while marketing broad coverage.
If a policy won’t cover you unless your trip starts and ends at the same airport/city, that should be explicitly stated before purchase, not discovered when you need help most.
Travel insurance is supposed to provide peace of mind. Instead, TinLeg left me stressed, out of pocket, and feeling scammed. I would strongly caution others to read every exclusion with a magnifying glass before considering this company.
10/6/25 Update: Tin Leg’s response claims my coverage was denied because I “entered incorrect departure or return dates.” That’s inaccurate. The dates I entered were the exact dates I would be physically present in the location for which I purchased coverage, which was the period for which I actually needed insurance.
It was very unclear during purchase and the confirmation that choosing any other range of dates (for example, including a domestic layover or travel time before or after the insured country) would invalidate the policy entirely. With international travel, especially, I feel details on what could void your coverage should be more clearly stated and more up front.
It feels misleading that a single technicality, one that wasn’t clearly disclosed, was used to deny my claim despite what I honestly thought was my accurate travel information. I’d love to have more transparency in how coverage dates are represented and sold.
Consumers deserve clear communication, not gotcha clauses hidden behind vague forms.
Response from Tin LegOct 6, 2025
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Your claim was denied because the policy was purchased with incorrect departure or return dates, which determine when your coverage is active. Before purchasing, our quote form explains that trip dates should reflect the day you leave and return home, and these dates are also included in your confirmation email after purchase.
We understand this outcome may be disappointing, and we’re here to help if you have additional questions. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your claims adjuster by email for further assistance.
