From living in shame to being free
When I first called Craig, I was on the brink of divorce. My wife was tired of me living in constant shame, letting her down, lying to her, confessing, making promises of recommitment , and then doing that pattern all over again. I was tired of it too, but couldn't seem to break the cycle. I tried church/spiritual based healing, twelve-step work with a couple of different groups, therapy with a number of therapists, and various self-help approaches. Although I had breakthroughs at different points and had periods of not acting out, I was never able to maintain a recovery I could consistently feel proud of. The mindful habit system is effective for me in creating positive change in my life because of a very simple approach that is based in simple psychology: "If you want to break a habit, you need to make a habit." This goes hand-in-hand with the programs catchphrase: "The solution to end an addiction is the aggressive pursuit of a great life." The understanding behind this is that nobody is capable of simply stopping addictive behavior, no matter what the consequences are. Our triggers will always be there and all of the patterns that have led us to those behaviors are deep-rooted in habits. To do the work of recognizing my behaviors, understanding their root causes, identifying my goals, making a plan to go after them and creating new healthy habits in my life has allowed me to lead a life I can finally be proud of. I never truly took responsibility for the life I was living until now. 2 1/2 years later, I strive every day to continue to build trust in my marriage and be a dad to my kids who they can rely on. Best of all, I've learned to rely on myself. If you are ready to work and become healthy, I definitely recommend this program.
