Ordered item shown in stock only to find out item was out of stock; not good
inventory system needs attention or I T org. Why let someone order an item that is out of stock?
Response from Tahoe Mountain SportsMay 12, 2014
Our website keeps real-time inventory of our cproduct selection, but sometimes there are small discrepancies in the actual quantity available. We're sorry to disappoint you, but please understand that we never intend to mislead anyone.
One out of every few hundred orders include a product that we can't find and ship. Sometimes a product gets stolen from our physical store or we make a data entry mistake. Outside of the occasional discrepancy the website's inventory is 99+% accurate.
Please contact us if there is anything we can do to restore your faith in doing business with us. We really do aim to please but we're only human and mistakes can happen.

Very bad return policy
I ordered boots from them that they advertised as true to size. I got the same size I get in every pair of footwear I ever buy (11), and when they arrived I couldn't get them on. I had emailed them to inquire about whether they had a larger size, stating that if they didn't I would like to return them for a refund. The woman I was in touch with said this wouldn't be a problem but they would not provide a return label and that customers were responsible for all shipping. The shipping cost 17 dollars, which was 1/4 the price of the boots. When I mentioned that this was very high and asked for some help w shipping the woman said I should have shipped with a different company. (A very rude comment). I she knew which company would have been cheaper I also feel she should have made that known when I asked about returning the boots. When I wrote back to politely voice my complaint she never replied. This was very bad customer service.

We are truly sorry for your less than amazing shopping experience with us. Our return policy states that customers are responsible for return shipping. The policy is displayed on every product page and throughout the checkout process.
We would love to be able to offer free return shipping but we simply can't afford to offer that service and maintain competitive pricing at the same time. Shipping costs are rising and a company our size is unable to pay for unconditional two-way shipping.
Thank you for the honest feedback. Our customer support team strives to deliver the best service we can and we're always looking for ways to improve customer experience.

what I ordered was no longer available
Ordered and paid, then received an email the next day stating that the boots I ordered were not available. I requested the order be canceled. It was canceled, but I did not receive my money back until after I emailed asking where it was.

Shipping SNAFU
I was psyched to find that TMS had the ABS canisters in stock, and with three days until my hut trip, was confident that they would arrive in time. After all, the pack I'd ordered the week before, from another Tahoe-area e-tailer, arrived in just two days. I placed my order on Tuesday March 12. Just in case, I wrote a note in the space provided, asking TMS to contact me if they thought my order would not arrive by Thursday 3/14, the day I was leaving for the long drive north to Golden, BC. I got a confirmation email, including a tracking number, that evening. Seemed like things were headed in the right direction. Two days later, the order hadn't arrived, so I left without my extra canisters, and fingers crossed that I wouldn't need them. On my return, the order still hadn't arrived, since, unbeknownst to me, Fedex needed a signature for the order. Nowhere during the order process, nor in the confirmation afterward, did I read anything about this. Nor did I receive any additional communication from TMS, as I requested in the order. SNAFUS happen, I get it. But with all the customer service efforts TMS is making, including this survey, I'd think that simply checking the note field on their online orders would be a pretty simple step. Needless to say, I won't be trusting them with an important order again, without some sign that they've improved on this most basic level.

John, we apologize for any miscommunication from our end and understand your frustration when your order did not arrive when expected. We actually do read every single customer note on web orders and FedEx did attempt to deliver it on the day you outlined in the order notes. If there was any doubt that we would not be able to fulfill your order in the time you requested we would have contacted you immediately to let you know.
We actually have no way of knowing when FedEx will require signed delivery and when they will leave a package at the doorstep. Those rules vary by region (for instance if a neighborhood has a history of many stolen packages it may be required for all deliveries), shipping method, the value of the contents, and many other factors that we can not determine at the time of shipping.
At the time of writing this response the package is still awaiting pickup or delivery instructions at the local FedEx location. You can also refuse the package and have it sent back to us at no additional cost if you no longer want the ABS canister.
Please get in touch with us if there is anything else we can do to make things right and restore your faith in doing business with us. We really do care about our customers' experience with us and we continually strive to improve.
