Needing to cancel on short notice owing to a medical consideration the hotel had ZERO interest in being accommodating, not even bothering to respond directly to my request. I will say that the service agent was more than OK, but the Box Hotel, nope.

I am a longtime PLUS paying customer of Tablet Hotels. While it has been my go to site for hotel bookings for years (because of the curated selection), I was disappointed last week when I booked a hotel for Rome that I was sent a confirmation email for (they had my credit card data on file) and then I found out a day or two before arrival that it was cancelled due to the payment details not going through. I suspect this was because my credit card had changed (new number from AMEX) but somehow they sent a confirmation (usually this happens after payment goes through!) and then the hotel cancelled my booking. I found out via email (that I don't check promptly out of habit) yet I was surprised that neither Tablet nor the hotel tried to call me on my mobile number that I always provide. As a paying customer with loads of previous bookings via Tablet that was the least they could do!

Hello Hamad! Thank you for taking the time to review our services here. We’re sorry for the billing issue you encountered before this most recent hotel stay. We try to streamline the process of communication between our users and the hotel as best we can. Since Tablet never charges for bookings, our standard practice is to link you with the property right away if there’s a discrepancy with the payment details. In this case, the hotel contacted Tablet a few hours after the booking was confirmed and since it was after 5pm EST we consciously decided to send an email, linking you with the hotel. As you provided a UK based phone number, we were worried about the possibility of calling too late at night. Over the years we’ve always emailed you to communicate about booking details and had no issues receiving a response. We didn’t anticipate any issue this time but we’re sorry we let you down and we’ve taken note that you prefer a phone call moving forward. Happily in this case, as soon as the hotel received your response they reinstated your booking and honored your Tablet rate. We hope you enjoyed your stay, we appreciate your continued loyalty, and we look forward to seeing you back at Tablet again soon.

It was easy to use.

I've stopped booking with Tablet because I almost always find a better price elsewhere and don't find the Plus Privileges to be worth the extra cost. Out of the several Tablet stays I've had, I have not once received a room upgrade (I realize this isn't guaranteed, but seems falsely touted as a likely possibility on the site). The other benefits, varying from hotel to hotel, generally are a cheap throw-ins; I'd rather save on the booking cost than to get a miniature box of chocolates or a free glass of prosecco at the hotel bar. At Mama Shelter Marseille, the complementary cocktail turned out to be a cheap and syrupy punch that was not only NOT listed on their own bar menu, but furthermore something I would never want to order. Le Pigalle in Paris didn't even have record of us having Plus Privileges, which turned into an awkward negotiation with the manager to get a free croissant and juice for breakfast. I will say the included breakfast buffet at Miss Clara in Stockholm was fabulous, and in a rare instance worth the extra cost to book through Tablet. I think Tablet has an enjoyable website experience and I often reference their curation choices when booking travel, but no longer use their booking services.

We had a nice stay. The room was very large and comfortable bed. We asked for a quiet room and it was. The free breakfast was adequate with cereal and yogurt and fresh fruit and they managed my gluten and dairy free allergies as well. We had dinner at the restaurant for one night which was perfectly nice.
