I'm just really sad.
I've had hearing aids for 18 years (most of my life!) and have gone through 3 pairs (this is my 4th) in my life due to the life cycle of the aids. Typically, I use Oticon however for some reason my insurance covered about 40% of Starkey so I decided that for that (huge) amount of money I would switch over. My old Oticon aids (6 years) had better hearing technology than the new Starkey Edge does. It had less feedback, adjusted better in crowds, better bluetooth connection, etc. Since having the Starkey Edge hearing aids, they have randomly muted mid conversation, changed settings after I set them to something else, randomly started beeping, died quickly, etc. I also requested a half dome mold for my ears. I was sent a quarter mold that has frequently fallen out of my ears. At that point I asked for a new mold, since these weren't working. They took the molds in my ears to send back, leaving me with the small domes for around 3 weeks - meaning I spent 3 weeks with headaches and additional difficulties with the domes, before I got the new molds....they were the exact same design. After that, I worked with my AuD to ask for the half mold design again, and they, for the third time, sent the original design that does not work for my ears. My dr. has offered to retake my molds and try again, but at this point I have already taken so much time off work to get the exact same design, I'm not sure it's even worth trying. Overall, just incredibly frustrated. I love that the Edges are able to track steps, standing time, etc. but what I actually care about is the hearing capabilities, and they just feel lacking. Almost like the R&D team is people who don't wear hearing aids. I like Starkey as a company and love the philanthropy work they do. I really wanted to like these hearing aids, truly I did. I just felt disappointed, unheard, and kinda sad I will be wearing these aids for the next 6 years. Almost wish I just spent the extra $4k and bought aids that work with me.
