Cute branding, deceptive billing — they gaslit me when I tried to cancel
I want to be fair: some of Sprinly's meals are decent. But the billing practices are where this company shows its true face — and it's not the wholesome, vegan-friendly brand they're selling you. Here's what happened: Had some digestive issues, so I toggled off my next two delivery weeks on their website. Their own platform confirmed: subscription suspended. I also sent a written cancellation request via email to firm it up. Despite both of those actions, they said they had already charged my card the morning for a delivery a week away I explicitly wished suspended and then I just cancelled. The rep told me it was "not enough time" — even though their website had already confirmed the suspension. Then came the gaslighting: she suggested I must have cancelled the subscription itself, implying I didn't know what I was doing. in fact, I did both. First, when she pushed back on a charge reversal. At that point, I wanted out completely. I have screenshots of every step. Their solution? A store credit. After I cancelled the subscription? I don't need a credit for food I can't eat easily — I have been vegan for years but encountered a digestive condition and told them so. I asked for a refund to my original payment method. They said they "can't issue refunds." I said: then mail me a check. They have gone silent. So, I filed a complaint with the FTC (Report #201645730) under the Negative Option Rule. Their own website confirming a cancellation while they bill you anyway is textbook negative option abuse. A few other things worth knowing: Heavy reliance on roughage — if you have a sensitive stomach, GI issues, or IBS, proceed with caution. Many dishes are fiber-dense in ways that aren't disclosed upfront. Reheating is inconsistent — air fryer doesn't work well for some dishes; pan is better, but it's not as grab-and-go as marketed Overuse of standard chopped tofu across multiple dishes — lacks the variety they advertise - almost a cliche. but again, some of the food is well done. Plastic packaging is still prevalent despite the eco branding — the recycled filler in the box is a nice touch, but don't mistake aesthetics for actual sustainability No phone number for customer service — the BBB noted they refused to provide basic business information and have no listed phone. Email only, which conveniently slows dispute resolution This company markets hard to health-conscious customers who trust the vegan-organic brand identity. That trust deserves to be honored. Billing practices that contradict your own website's confirmation, then gaslighting customers who push back, is not a vibe. It's a red flag. Do your research before subscribing. Cancellation is not as easy as sign-up — which is exactly what the FTC's updated rules prohibit.
Response from SprinlyMay 14, 2026
Hi Al, and thank so much for your review! We are so sorry to hear about the subpar experience you had with Sprinly 😔 It looks like we did go ahead and resolve your concerns in less than 24 hours by way of a refund. While all of our Guarantees and Policies are clearly stated on our website prior to signing up for your subscription, we understand that new subscriptions can be tricky as you're getting started, and so we were happy to make an exception for you. We definitely encourage folks to do their research by reading through our website prior to subscribing. For example, we do not offer air fryer instructions, as we have not done the internal testing on them - stovetop, oven, and microwave instructions are recommended and included on each meal container. This information is stated on our FAQ page. Further, charges are never processed after cancellation - upon closer inspection, it looks like your subscription was cancelled after your final order had been processed. We would never withhold an order that you paid for, of course! Our order cycle and deadlines are also stated on our FAQ page, as well as our "How It Works" page, and in your "Welcome" email, which you received after signing up for your subscription. Our phone number is also clearly listed on our website, at the bottom of the page, contrary to the report that you mentioned. So, if there are any further issues that are as yet unresolved, we would welcome you to continue your email conversation, or feel free to contact us on the phone. In the meantime, your refund should be visible in your bank account in 9 or fewer business days, given that the refund was issued on May 13th (yesterday). Thanks again for giving us a try, and have a great summer!
