Absolute scam. My husband opted for the refundable option and due to unforseen circumstance can no longer attend the races. Customer service is no help, and the third-party system they use refused his refund request. This thing is expensive for no reason and an internal shit-show.

Scam company, horrible race.
Absolutely horrible customer service, scamming you for money from every angle and refusing to give it back.
The race was 9 miles when it was advertised as 6 miles.
The obstacles were boring and easy other than the barbed wire on mile 7.5 on a "6 mile" course.
This was a horrible experience, a waste of time, and a waste of money. I wouldnt recommend this to my worst enemy, simply because I dont want this company to make money.

No care or support for pregnant participant - AVOID
The customer service of Spartan has been so bad. I was due to take part in the London West Spartan Event race but received the exciting news I am pregnant and recommended not to take part on medical advice due to the hazards of some obstacles.
Having already bought and secured the ticket I was told I would be able to transfer the ticket by spartan - this was my only option to get any money back. Upon paying the transfer fee (£21), my friend was told they would have to pay an additional £100 to secure the ticket (which was already secured!). Understandably they weren't prepared to pay.
I've contacted the team regularly for some support around a maternity policy which most other competitive events I have attended have. I've been in touch and they have failed to refund me, offer a transfer to next year or even just to be able to do the seemingly simple step of transferring the ticket to my friend which they reassured me would be a simple process.
I really wish I had read these reviews earlier, the experiences others have had really parallel my own, and it's clear to see that customer service is not a priority for Spartan.
AVOID - you'll lose money and receive no support. Extremely disappointing.
