The staff at Southern Season's Cooking School do a phenomenal job presenting their own cooking classes, both demo and hands-on, as well as bringing in talented and personable guest chefs. The most recent I attended was Chef Keith Rhodes from Catch Restaurant in Wilmington and have already re-created 2 of the recipes at home. Highly recommend Southern Season and their cooking classes for everyone who delights in good food! The portions are great and I often take some home. Delicious wine pairings help round out the evening of culinary entertainment.

Loved all the technique tips, behind the scenes stories of the culinary world, humor of the instructor, amazing recipes!

Although chef was very well informed, he attempted to do too much. Often had to move among recipes and he was clearly under pressure. Don't know if latter made him impolite to volunteers (only the women) but it seemed unnecessary and not humorous

Joan Nathan was an engaging teacher. But the three dishes that she chose to cook didn't all turn out well - in her opinion - and that was disappointing. I would love to do a class where there is more class hands on opportunity to participate, but Southern Season may not do its classes that way.

Marjorie, thank you for your feedback. This class was, regretfully, not up to our standards or Joan's, due to several extenuating circumstances that were out of our control. Thankfully, this is a rare occurance for us and we would be delighted to have you join us for another class. You are correct that Joan's class was a demonstration style class - where students sit back and relax as the chef and volunteers prepare dinner. We also offer hands-on classes - where students actually participate in the preparation! We have quite a few lined up for this semester! Our kids asked me when could they come back for another cooking class. They loved it!!

Used to love Southern Season. Unfortunately they have gone completely downhill since bankruptcy. They no longer honor their gift cards and the one class that I have attended since the acquisition was a total disappointment. Advanced gingerbread house decorating was like a young child's holiday themed party. I can believe I paid $50 for it. First, the woman teaching it was not knowledgeable of the subject. She made frosting so runny, it was a challenge to get candy to even stick to the house. They also didn't have enough candy and suggested we go buy more from the store ourselves. For the price of the class, enough candy should have been provided. Not sure I will ever sign up for another class at SS.

Brian, we're sorry to hear about your class experience. This certainly does not meet the standards that we have set for our Cooking School. We will be certain that the Cooking School Manager receives this note and takes the appropriate steps to improve this course. We hope you'll give us another opportunity to impress you with a future course.
