The class was pretty good, I would have liked a little more hands on practice during the initial demonstration to help retain the instructions, but in general a good class, great facilities!

Joan Nathan herself was wonderful. However, the microphones were not properly adjusted for her voice to carry to the back where I was sitting - and I have excellent hearing. I made at least 2 requests for the mikes to be fixed better and nothing was done. Furthermore, the camera operator kept forgetting to focus on the FOOD preparation. I needed to use the screen to watch because of where I was sitting and I often couldn't really see what I needed to. I have taken several cooking courses at SS and this was the most disappointing on a technical and preparation level. Usually, the helpers have everything out - or know where it is - and are tuned in immediately to what the guest chef needs. This was lacking in the Joan Nathan course. These are expensive classes and, even if I am the only one with this kind of review, you should take pains to keep us coming back.

Although chef was very well informed, he attempted to do too much. Often had to move among recipes and he was clearly under pressure. Don't know if latter made him impolite to volunteers (only the women) but it seemed unnecessary and not humorous

Joan Nathan was an engaging teacher. But the three dishes that she chose to cook didn't all turn out well - in her opinion - and that was disappointing. I would love to do a class where there is more class hands on opportunity to participate, but Southern Season may not do its classes that way.

Marjorie, thank you for your feedback. This class was, regretfully, not up to our standards or Joan's, due to several extenuating circumstances that were out of our control. Thankfully, this is a rare occurance for us and we would be delighted to have you join us for another class. You are correct that Joan's class was a demonstration style class - where students sit back and relax as the chef and volunteers prepare dinner. We also offer hands-on classes - where students actually participate in the preparation! We have quite a few lined up for this semester! This is the first time I ordered online. I love your coffee even though it's pricey. But I had trouble with the coupon codes. I tried several times and it wouldn't take it but then the last time it did take but it didn't apply the free shipping. $14 for shipping is a lot.

We take pride in ensuring our guest's satisfaction, and as a small business Southern Season strives to offer fair shipping rates that enables us to continue offer our large assortment of gifts, coffees and specialty foods to everyone. Please also note that any third-party online coupon sites are not maintained by Southern Season and those codes are rarely if ever valid on our website. We apologize for any confusion this may have created in your online shopping experience. We value your business and thank you for choosing Southern Season.

We ordered a lovely Carolina-based gift basket to be delivered express delivery for nearly $40 extra. Other online stores offer 1-2 day express delivery from the time of order. It was not evident from the beginning (poorly placed messaging on the website) that the express delivery option meant that it would be shipped *after* the basket would be prepared, and this meant not on a Saturday or Sunday. This caused us to need to cancel our order, which was being delivered to a guest staying in a hotel at the time, and need to re-order to be delivered to a new location, albeit later than we wanted to. One other detail: the credit card entry method was outdated and did not work with a business expense card I often use on other online ordering platforms. I had to use a personal card. We love A Southern Season's products, but wish the online ordering system was more up-to-date.

My 9 year old daughter attended a cooking class this past weekend. The facilities were lovely, and the teachers warm and kind. My daughter was, however, frustrated by the lack of actual cooking she got to do. Would have enjoyed more individual work, rather than making a class dish, which was mostly cooked by the teachers and then divided for all to try.

Thank you for your kind words about our facilities, instructors and learning opportunities. Our hands-on classes have recently expanded from 12 seats to 16 seats, and, as you noted, we're still working out the kinks. Your feedback is so important to us, so we have shared your review with our Cooking School team. Having just released our new Cooking School schedule, we are sure they will work in future classes to ensure that your daughter, and other children, will continue to have an opportunity to both learn and participate. Thank you for choosing Southern Season!

I have been a long-time customer of Southern Season (since they were in Eastgate) but we moved away from NC 5 years ago due to a job relocation. I like to give Southern Season baskets for special occasions and in the past they had a great selection. For this most recent purchase the basket I wanted to send was out of stock, but I ordered it anyway since there was no rush to have it sent immediately. Customer service called and notified me that the item was out of stock and could not state when it would be available again. Therefore, I replaced the gift basket with another one at a similar price. I also had trouble with the website with my initial purchase, since NO e-mail confirmation was sent. Only after talking to Customer Service, did I receive an e-mail. I also am a Premier card holder and my discount and free shipping was not applied to this order. Overall, the gift basket selection online is limited and using the Premier card online does not work. For the future, I will stick with just purchasing items at the store when I am back in Chapel Hill (once a year). I love Southern Season, but since online purchasing is less satisfactory it makes sense to do only in-store purchases.
