Not What I Would Use for a Business Website
First, my opinion is based upon over 20 years of building websites (html, css, php, js, etc.), which included about 10 years of running my own web design company. All of the websites that I custom built for my customers were ranked #1 on search engines. I am familiar with most all different CMSes (content management systems), none of which I recommend (mostly because of the CMSes being continuously attacked by hackers, which consumes bandwidth, slows the loading speeds, and much too often results in the website itself becoming malware). Recently I discovered Solo AI. Being curious, I attempted to build a simple little website on Solo, just for the purpose of my gaining an idea of how well Solo works. A short list of what I found: (1) The offered page layouts are amaturish, very-very amaturish, not what a professional business would choose. Yes, today it is important that a website is able to be viewed on cell phones, but the website ought to also be viewable and agreeable to computer users. Solo AI is cell phone first, business computer user last. (2) The AI-generated text is horrendously bad with its dishonest hype (exagerated phrasings (lies)) and unacceptably bad grammar. When I edited the AI text in one paragraph section, the AI would alter other sections with similar words, but the words did not relate to nor make sense within the other paragraphs' context. After about an hour of attempting to edit the first page's AI-created content, I finally had enough. (3) The AI-generated photos were all scraped from Unsplash.com. There are many good photographers on Unsplash, but the AI-generated choices of photos were extraordinarily inappropriate (the photos suggest scenarios that do not exist, which then further makes the website a deceitful lie). The act of Solo scraping other people's websites for its own website content is dishonest, immoral, and reason enough to permanently refuse to visit any website created by Solo. I myself have used photos from Unsplash, but I give credit to the photographers while also including links back to the photographers' content pages. Any business that accepts the scraping of content, is itself a dishonest business and is to be permanently avoided by all potential customers. (4) Solo AI heavily relies upon javascript and several external links to other websites (tracking, spyware, etc.) that are not controlled by Solo. Individuals who are cautious online, keep javascript turned off (i.e. use NoScript), as well as declining content that is created from external websites. The security risks of Solo are large for both the website owner as well as for the website's visitors. (5) Upon having seen the numerous faults within Solo AI's first page, I did not progress further to look at other pages (i.e. payment processing, correspondence, etc,), of which I assumed would be no less of a security threat than the home page. There was no possible way on earth that I would give Solo any personal information, expecially not if it included anything to do with credit cards and bank accounts. Over-all, the Solo AI is the very worst 'website creator' that I myself have seen. Even the free WordPress setup is far favored over Solo (regardless of WordPress being the #1 CMS that is attacked by hackers). If a person wants free hosting, and is willing to spend a day learning basic html and css (i.e. w3schools.com), then 50webs is quite good (I myself began with a free 50webs account that I used for a hobby website). When comparing Solo to the hundreds of viable alternatives, I myself rank Solo as being the least useful of all.
Response from Solo AI Website CreatorMay 27, 2025
Hi Larry, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback . We’re sorry to hear that Solo didn’t meet your expectations. Our goal is to make website creation more accessible, especially for users without technical backgrounds. To clarify: We use legally licensed images from Unsplash with appropriate usage rights and properly attribute the images to Unsplash via the Image Picker modal. Our AI-generated content is designed as a starting point — not a final draft — and users are notified that this is AI-generated content and most do edit their content to personalize it to their liking. Regarding security and external scripts: Solo follows modern web development practices, and we’re transparent about what data we collect and use, as required in our Privacy Policy. We’re continuously evolving, and your insights will help us improve. If you're open to it, we’d love to connect directly to learn more about your expectations — and to improve Solo. Best, Solo Team
