This is a common practice to verify that the payment method is valid and can process a charge if you decide to continue with the service after the trial period. A pre-authorization is not an actual charge. it simply places a temporary hold on the funds which is automatically released by your bank after a short period. No money is deducted from your account unless the trial period ends and you choose to continue with the subscription.
