Entrapment
I stopped in an empty car park in Reading to pick someone up. I was there for 12 minutes and 15 seconds. I did not see the signage as it was dark. I received a penalty notice with a fine for £60, which seemed excessive. I appealed in the hope they would be lenient but ready to accept the decision of the appeal. They acknowledged reciept of my appeal, then I heard nothing until I recieved 2 letters, 19/04/24, from Debt Recovery Plus, saying the fine had gone up to £170 with 10 days to pay it. I managed to contact debt recovery by phone but they could do nothing, it is impossible to contact Smart parking on the phone. I have emailed them to complain and have just had an auto reply saying I will not have a reply for at least 7 days. This company seems to operate a policy of entrapment. I am reporting them to the British Parking Association for breaching their code of conduct relating to appeals Section 23.8. anyone with similar complaints please complain.
