My husband and I booked a 12 day cruise along with my sister and her husband in August of 2022 to the Mediterranean. Smart Cruiser had offered a $125.00 onboard credit as part of the booking which we were to receive while on the cruise. I contacted Bob F. twice while on board and Holland America reached out to Smart Cruiser twice on our behalf and were told we would see it before the end of the cruise. Needless to say, we did NOT get it, nor did my sister. I contacted Smart cruiser upon my return and requested a credit. After a dozen plus e-mails and phone calls over 6 months with Manager Jen Duckworth we still are no further ahead. Every excuse in the book! She indicated that many attempts to wire money to our account failed. I contacted my bank....no attempts were made. So the final excuse is that we need to have an American account in the States. We are Canadian and have an American account in a Canadian bank...not good enough. If you had given us the money while on board there would be no issues. If you can't cut a cheque or refund money to Canadians...don't take book or take our money in the first place. So DISHONEST! This isn't just about the money...it's the principle. I have booked with Smart Cruiser in the past. NO MORE. We are avid cruisers and will book with travel companies who follow ethical practices.

What a disgrace of a company I can’t even speak to a manager or supv. They don’t return calls to discuss problems that I have. Wrote letters to the ceo. No response. Trying to speak to somebody of authority still no call back you don’t treat customers like this especially I’m paying thousands for cruises I had numerious issues. I guess they care less about good customers Be very carefull when dealing with this sub par company How is it they have no managers or supv. How is it that you try to call corporate still no response

We booked a cruise with Norwegian with the airfare included for our family of 5, which meant 2 cabins (Mom, Dad, 2 sons & a girlfriend.. ages 15, 20 & 20). The reservations were supposed to be linked. The agent explained that the airfare would be "at the discretion of the cruise line" (we understood the translation: we wouldn't know the airline or flight times until 30 days prior). The agent FAILED TO MENTION this could mean our family could be split up on different airlines, and in our case even different days! As part of the booking, we were told we could fly-in the day before the cruise (Feb 4). We live in Canada and February weather is unpredictable. After a change in which 2 of the kids were on a flight of their own, 3 were given flights on Feb 4th and 2 were given flights on Feb 5th. We might have been able to make this work, except our son and his girlfriend aren't on a flight together and the stress this is causing has ruined the trip. If our sales agent knew we could get split up for travel, why wouldn't options have been discussed on how the group would be split?! The bottom line - we would NEVER have booked this trip if the flights conditions had been fully explained. NEVER! When I spoke with Customer Service, the Rep kindly explained that she herself would never book a deal like this for exactly the situation my family is in. Thanks!!! Shame on Smartcruiser for not being up front when making the sale and making ZERO effort to try and resolve. You washed your hands and blamed Norwegian. I would've expected the Sales Agent to know what she was selling and to be honest! Your company has soured our Christmas gift to our kids, wasted hours of our time trying to sort this out, and forced us to spend another $3,000 on new flights to salvage their Christmas gift.

They are only nice until they get your money. Once they have your money they could care less in helping you or being nice about a situation that can’t be done. I was diagnosed with a chronic illness few days after I booked and they were rude in explaining I couldn’t get a refund. I’m a combat veteran and their attitude and lack of care and understanding was not appreciated. Will never use them again for any of my future cruises. The customer service was extremely rude! I paid for a spa balcony rooms and one room had only one person but still had to pay double occupancy. They never shared with me that the balcony on that level Is an uncovered balcony. I had to get rooms on another cruise line all together and the only rooms they stated were available together were all the way in the back in a crappy part of the ship. I had no choice but to book as I’m taking my mom on her first cruise. The agency knows we had to pay for double occupancy for my moms room and they never even tried talking to the cruise line to get us better rooms. Never followed up on anything. There was an email sent by the cruise line about upgrades and since we paid extra they could have requested from the cruise line to upgrade us, but they never bothered. I’ll stick with vacations to go. This is the edited version to respond to smartcruiser below. You guys have the information of the two things mixed up balcony on the 14th deck on carnival is not covered. Second no one told me or offered me insurance. No one told me they were non refundable. You guys didn’t do all you could what you did was send me a rude response. You could have spoken to the cruise line on my behalf. It was few days after I booked. Regardless there are a lot of reviews against you guys for poor customer service I’m not the only person. I don’t recommend your company because of your poor customer service. Btw the credit was 125 not 175 and you guys cost way more than vacations to go that’s why you guys even give out the credit. That’s all a marketing tactic not a favor to me or a courtesy credit that was given just to me. You offered no such thing. Now even more so I don’t recommend smartcruiser. I will be posting the same review everywhere. So according to you I’m getting 175 per cabin booked?? How come no one sent me any information to that change?? I only see 125 on my end plus your prices were at least 100 more than vacations to go. Please send me a direct email where it shows my credit that you are speaking of. There is no such thing as 175 dollars. The cruise on your site has dropped about 100 dollars from when I booked and when I booked the prices were way higher than other companies but it equaled out with the 125 dollars onboard credit which is a marketing tactic not a favor to me. Once again, you guys provided me with incorrect information about gratuity saying it will be 96 per person however, its way more. Never offered me insurance or explained anything. I stick to my review, poor customer service and even though now the prices on tour site dropped you never offered a credit as a courtesy. Poor poor customer service, extremely unsatisfactory. Thank you!

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to learn you were not happy with your cruise planning experience. I took the time to research your transaction and all the notes associated with your reservation. Hopefully I can clarify for you where your frustrations should be placed. It is the cruise line's policy, not SmartCruiser's to set the single and double occupancy rates. The majority of the time, rates are based on double occupancy, regardless if you are 1 or 2 people. If you choose to sail with one person in the cabin, you still have to pay the full price for the cabin. You pay the taxes and gratuities for one person, but the cruise lines expect a certain revenue for the cabin regardless if it's one or two people. There are a few exceptions, such as Norwegian that has cabins designed for the solo cruiser called studio cabins. Since you chose to sail on Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas, this style cabin is not offered. We are sorry that you had a challenging diagnosis soon after booking your cruise. We advised you that the cruise line (again, not SmartCruiser's policy but the cruise line's policy) cancellation penalty was at 75% when you notified us. You had declined the travel insurance which is something that we highly recommend to protect your vacation investment. We also advised within a few days you would be at 100% penalty. SmartCruiser has no control over the cruise line's cancellation policies. You decided to sail. The cruise line declined to offer a change in policy since you declined the travel insurance. The cruise line does not offer a complimentary upgrade because you choose to sail as a single occupancy in a double occupancy cabin. It is standard practice by Royal Caribbean to offer it's guests an opportunity to Bid for an Upgrade, based on availability. They send out an email to booked passengers. Those that participate in the bidding have the chance to upgrade. Highest bids win any available higher category cabin. The cruise line does not hand out complimentary upgrades regardless of how you book your reservation. Because you booked past the cruise line's final payment date, your payment was due in full and you were already inside the cancellation schedule. Your only request to us was to change your dining time to My Time, which was completed for you. As we offer extra value to our clients, we did that for you as well with a total value in discounts and onboard credits of $175. Your cabin is on deck 9 which is in fact a covered balcony with cabins above you on deck 10. Last minute bookings are subject to remaining availability. We do hope you will be able to enjoy your cruise experience. We did our best to take care of your requests and explain cruise line policies when you had your concerns. You were clear you didn't like the answers. We can offer the explanations and the policies but we can't alter them unfortunately. All of the things in our control, we did for you. Thank you and best wishes for a happy and healthy cruise. In addition to your response, you are missing the $50 rate reduction we also gave for $175. We do not set the prices of the cruises. The cruise lines set the prices and we further enhance with extra value. You are not booked on Carnival. You cancelled those reservations. You are booked on Royal Caribbean with a covered balcony cabin on deck 9. We are sorry you are unsatisfied. We've explained the best we could directly to you and with your review. We've done all we could to assist you. We wish you well and hope you have a wonderful cruise vacation and feel well soon.

Would never again use SmartCruiser or recommend it to anyone. I was extremely disappointed and shared my concerns with my agent’s supervisor.
Response from SmartCruiser.comMay 10, 2019
Thank you for your feedback. Of course we hate to see anyone disappointed with our services. When Princess cruises has an upgrade, that offer can go out to all of the booked interior cabins. Often there is only a few cabins to grab and are typically gone before the majority of guests even get to respond. Regarding your shore excursion request, again we went to Princess on your behalf and they responded with the onboard credit. While we will do whatever we can to ensure guest satisfaction, on rare occasion someone has a disappointment. We did try to eliminate your concerns. We hope your next cruise vacation is a good process for you. Best Wishes.
