Needs to work on customer experience.
I have been here twice in a row, each with different estheticians. I will give the estheticians credit for their skill, experience, and knowledge; however, I am deeply dissatisfied with the customer experience at this spa, and would not recommend it to others. I got a customized facial at the new client rate of $49. Eka did my facial and kept bringing up different types of recommended services and products throughout the facial. Talking about purchasing future services during my session really turned me off. I was trying to enjoy the atmosphere and Eka's skilled hands on my face, but hearing her talk about prices, recommendations, and membership perks killed the mood. I would have appreciated the conversation afterwards (i.e. when I am paying for the bill.) I also felt she didn't do a thorough job with the extractions -- I could feel my nose wasn't thoroughly extracted, and another esthetician confirmed it. I went in for the second time to get a microdermabrasion with Siylvia. Siylvia is very skilled, and the procedure itself went fine. Again, a little bit too much talking and recommending what services I should buy, etc. Siylvia explained to me that I was the perfect candidate for a microdermabrasion because a chemical peel (glycolic acid) is better suited for acne prone skin. (I have clear, normal skin.) I later told her my nose still felt congested due to the insufficient amount of extractions performed on the previous facial. Siylvia agreed and suggested that I come back for another customized facial with a power peel (glycolic acid). Perhaps I expected that my all of my skin's needs should have be taken care of with a customized facial plus a microdermabrasion, but I am not happy at the fact that I would need another facial and a peel. I have gone to other spas where a single glycolic acid treatment had taken care of everything. And why do I need to do a glycolic peel if a microdermabrasion should have addressed my dead skin cells? Clearly, this spa is trying to sell me as many services as possible. I also really dislike the confusing menu with the add-on prices. A customized facial, with a microdermabrasion as an add-on is an extra $50 vs. a single microdermabrasion treatment is $80 vs. a customized facial with microdermabrasion is $110. Or a customized facial, with extractions as an add-on is an extra $50. Shouldn't a customized facial include a thorough job on extractions? Another indication that this spa is trying to upsell its services to you. A simple, straightforward menu is the way to go because your client knows what level of thoroughness to expect. For example, I can expect a deep cleansing facial will have more emphasis on extractions than a basic, classic facial. (i.e. classic facial for $80, deep cleansing facial for $100, microdermabrasion facial for $120, etc). The front desk was friendly and professional; however, I had a hiccup using a Yelp deal. Yelp did not explicitly state that its deal was only for first time clients. I read the fine print before purchasing it, but at the time of service, the receptionist told me I could not use the Yelp deal and the spa was already giving me 15% off the microdermabrasion service (website listed its new price at $65 instead of $80). The receptionist told me also told me the Yelp deal could only be used on full priced services. I offered to pay full price for the microdermabrasion so I could use the Yelp deal, but she told me the deal could only be used for the new clients. I paid the $65, and luckily, Yelp was willing to refund the amount paid for my deal. Maybe Yelp and Skin Spa need better communication and coordination and make sure their terms of use are in sync. Overall, great atmosphere, friendly front desk, and skilled estheticians, but management really needs to work on its customer experience.
