Bought this to to replace a old Garmin unit, new Garmins being expensive. The Simrad Cruise 7 is no Garmin, that's for sure.
1) Depth and Water temp didn't work at first. Seated and reseated cables. No help. After a day or two they started working??? When will they go out again?
2) Difficult to read in direct sun.
3) Confusing power on/off key sequence.
4) Base chart that comes with unit is junk. Garmin came with a good one. Had to buy a Navionics chart for more money. And still, waypoints are too small, depth numbers very hard to read. Boat's previous track is way too bold.
5) Water temp reads 2 degrees high (there is an adjustment to compensate for this).
You pay for what you get.

I have a Go9 on my 2020 Seafox and the unit had been working good but last couple of times when I turn the unit on its almost a black screen. Very aggravating as you cannot read the screen to adjust. Simrad what is causing this? And how do we correct it?
Response from Simrad YachtingJun 15, 2021
Hi, Steve! So sorry to hear that your screen is dim. Have you adjusted the brightness on your screen? With the unit on, tap the power button quickly one time and it will bring up options, one should say Brightness. You can adjust it there. Or if that's not the issue, please give us a call at 800-628-4487. Thanks!

I think I found what I wanted
I think I found what I wanted on the website. When searching for parts for older installations, it would be nice to be able to find a guide or help. Otherwise, Simrad shipped what I ordered and in a few weeks when I am back on my boat I shall see if I got the correct cable and connectors.

Hard Nosed Marine Provider
I admitted that I mistakenly through out the little package with the 4 plastic corners for the Cruise 7. The first person I 1st talked to said he would send them to me if I supplied the serial number. I called back with the serial number and the gal said no, I would have to pay for them in a kit that costs $14.00. Other Marine companies in the marine community I have dealt have just mailed insignificant things like that at no charge. Bad taste and no warm feeling with Navico. Too bad because I like the unit itself. I'll know better on my next electronics purchase.

I recently bought a new 2020 NauticStar…
I recently bought a new 2020 NauticStar 2302 Center Console, that I am very happy with. I spent much of my career in Marine Law Enforcement, so I am pretty electronics intensive insofar as my personal boats are concerned. My marine electronics dealer did a fabulous job outfitting my new boat with a SIMRAD GO9 XSE Multi-Function Display, SIMRAD NSS9 EVO3 Multi-Function Display, SIMRAD Halo 20 RADAR, thru hull transducer (For GO9), Three-In-One Transom Mount Transducer (For NSS9) and GS25 GPS Antenna w/Compass. After almost 50 years of boating, I have come to appreciate all the redundancy I can afford.
I Paid for extended warranties on everything ... since I am on the water 300-400 Hours a year, extended warranties are practical for me.
When I picked up the boat, my SIMRAD Dealer gave me a SIMRAD Rebate Offer worth $300 which I duly submitted, along with the SIMRAD Dealer's invoice for almost $10,000. In the online submission process, they asked for a pic of the back of the unit showing the serial number, so I sent them a picture of my console and explained that everything was flush mounted, but the serial numbers for each component were clearly identified on the invoice.
That was in January 2020 ... They gave me a tracking number that same day, but I never heard anything from them since.
Today, April 30, 2020, I contacted their rebate office, which was VERY difficult for me because the address that they provided with my tracking number (/go/Rebate/Dashboard) doesn't work. In fact, nothing does ... the phone number they offered takes you thru a series of menus that finally ask for the tracking number or my phone number on file ... neither menu worked, telling me the phone number (that I have had for 30 years) didn't work and it cut me off every time halfway thru the tracking number.
I finally got thru to a person via a different phone number I found on the Internet (800-286-9146). The woman I spoke to advised that my submission was declined two days after I submitted it because I didn't send the pic of the back of the unit. She could not explain why they didn't inform me of that by phone, email, or regular mail.
I asked why SIMRAD was willing to accept the serial numbers from my Authorized Dealer in order to sell me extended warranties, which they had on file, but expected me to have the unit uninstalled to access the serial number rather than accept the serial number on the invoice. She had no answer for that so I asked for contact information so I could file a formal complaint.
After leaving me on hold for a while, she returned and said her supervisor was at lunch but would call me back ... he never did.
Moreover, the GO9 failed almost immediately (within a month) ... the touch pad died completely. The dealer reported it and was told they would send a "replacement" within several weeks. He pitched a fit and demanded they send a new one immediately and he paid for expedited delivery. He took care of me there and it works fine.
Over the years, I have had electronics by Raytheon (Maybe that is Ray Marine now), Furuno, Si-Tex, ACR, ICom, etc., that I have been extremely happy with. I don't get this at all ... Why would SIMRAD offer me a $300 Rebate AFTER I had all this equipment installed if they were going to cheat me out of it?
I'm old, and my experience is dated. The boat I replaced was a 1990 Scarab, so I don't know anything about the newer marine electronics suppliers like Hummingbird or Garmin b... in my day, LORAN was the most important thing. I do know I could have outfitted this new boat with Furuno equipment for the same money as I paid for this.
In fairness, I should say that, other than the initial GO9 glitch, everything works wonderfully well now, and all this stuff talks to each other perfectly. It's the nonsense that annoys me.
I would post all the related documents and pictures but there does not seem to be any provision for that.
UPDATE 5/12/2020
Since I published this information, I have been contacted by SIMRAD. They report that their rebate programs are handled by a third-party. This is true, as the application process does go thru a third-party web site.
SIMRAD was not aware that I had filed for the rebate, nor were they aware that the application was denied. They seemed disturbed that the third-party denied my application, failed to communicate that to me, and failed to follow up as promised when I asked for contact information so I could file a formal complaint.
SIMRAD reviewed my paperwork and notified me the next day that they had approved my application and the rebate would be forthcoming. I have no doubt ... "Patty," the lady I dealt with struck me as being as sympathetic as any representative could be.
It's not for me to say, but I hope that SIMRAD will exercise some oversight over the third-party that handles their rebates.

Called to discuss the right transducer…
Called to discuss the right transducer to install into a 37 foot Sea Ray with a Simrad Go9. Seems like I got an international call centre. The man seemed Indian, which for all intended purposes is fine, except he was hard to understand and went straight into telling me I needed a certain transducer without even asking what size boat I have. I said how can you tell me this info when you haven't even asked what boat size and what am I using it for?
Then there was an "oh what size boat is it?" to which I replied 37 ft. Then he proceeded to change his decision to a different transducer??. At that stage I actually hung up. Its easy to say oh this and that when its not your money!!!
I called back about 10 mins later and got another person who spoke well and asked all the questions I thought he should ask and proceeded to tell me that I only needed an SS60 Transducer. Which I then purchased. Whilst I haven't yet put the boat back in the water yet I cant give any other info on whether its correct for me and my usage. I have researched a bit and have seen quite a few times that this ss60 Transducer is meant for smaller boats. So time will tell whether or not i have wasted my money on right or wrong info from a help line.
The must say on the second call the person was quite knowledgeable on the products, so again TIME WILL TELL.
Regards Aaron
