I was not informed at the time of purchase that I was creating an automatic renewal for knife sharpening. There is no opt-out unless I guess you order and then cancel. Not professional and unethical. So their solution is to send me envelopes since I'm tricked into doing business with them. Not going to happen. Clearly, they rely on this trick to stay in business.

My knives are gone!
My knives are gone! Sharpenters provided an envelope that ruptured during transit and all of the knives were lost. The Company freely admits that this problem has occurred in the past yet they continue to claim that the provided envelope is sufficient to transport knives. Worse, Sharpenters did not offer to replace the knives and was quick to blame the USPS and directed me to some fine print on their website. Terrible customer service. Do yourself a favor and use someone local and stay away for this company!

Michael,
Thank you for your business and your review. As our team has explained, this occurrence is extremely rare. Indeed our envelopes are sufficient and approved to transport knives. This is of course not to say that they are unbreakable and as we have communicated USPS has confirmed in writing that the damage occurred en route, before the knives arrived to us. As we have communicated separately, we will do everything we can to gain you the maximum compensation available under the USPS insurance.

Poor customer service!!!!!!!
First experience with them was in 11/23. Now comes 11/24 and unannounced I received a mailing envelope for knives and a charge made to my credit charge. When I complained I was informed that I agreed to an annual subscription program with my original order. I do not recall any such agreement. They could not explain why no notice had been sent prior to their sending current envelope which would have allowed me to cancel. I am a senior citizen on a fixed income. I do not need this overpriced item, but they refuse to reimburse my credit card. It may be a problem that is my fault, but their refusal to assist indicates a real lack of effort on their part to do the right thing. Needless to say, I would never do business with them again!

Sam,
Thank you for your business and your review. As explained separately, we offer both one time sharpenings and subscriptions. This is clearly advertised on our website and naturally the subscriptions are lower cost than the one time sharpenings. You did indeed originally purchase an annual subscription and we have confirmed that we sent you a reminder e-mail before the renewal of your subscription, to give you an opportunity to cancel the subscription if you so wish. We only charge the renewals when we send out the next round of materials for your next sharpening and we have significant costs related to this (special packaging materials and 3 way postage) so we unfortunately cannot refund a renewal but we promptly cancelled your continued subscription when you reached out. We also confirmed your request that any family member can use the envelopes and send their knives so we hope that you will find good use for your next sharpening. We look forward to supporting you with any other request you may have.

They lost several of my expensive…
They lost several of my expensive knives and never compensated me after more than 6 months wait!

Terri,
Thank you for your business and your review. We are sorry that you left less than 100% satisfied. As we have discussed separately, once we learned that USPS (not Sharpenters) lost some of your knives, we filed a claim and have continuously followed up with them to gain a resolution. We have also updated you each time we have received information from USPS. In the meantime, we also provided a partial refund on your order. We will continue to follow up with USPS on your claim status every day and reach out as soon as we have more information.

So far not happy
So far not happy. They received knives (per usps tracking), they didn't send me a confirmation even though they claim they do. I have emailed a few times, absolutely no response. I'm afraid my knives have fallen into the void. Do far customer service sorely lacking.

Hi Ellen
Thank you for your review. We are very sorry that your package was delayed and our response to you was not in keeping with our typical fast response times. In reviewing your account, I see that you were able to get the answers that you needed and that your knives were delivered to you a few days after posting this (on Feb. 1). The delay was due to both the USPS weather delays and our a temporary staff shortage on our side due to the same weather related incident. We hope that you will allow us to impress you by allowing us to serve your knife sharpening needs in the future.
All the best,
The team at Sharpenters

Good Morning Stephen and thank you for reaching out to us.
After looking further into your situation, it appears that the issue with communication is related to the fact that our support team was responding to your Live Chat messages which you used your yahoo.com email account for, while your email messages were sent from your ymail.com email, so it appears that our support team was responding to you but you did not see their responses because you may have been looking at the ymail.com email account instead of the yahoo.com email. I see that the support team was responsive and is continuing to investigate why USPS tracking has not updated and where exactly they have your package. We will continue to keep you updated on the progress of the investigation as we gain more information from USPS and while this type of shipping issue does not happen often with USPS, we will do our best to determine what exactly is going on with your package and the cause of this delay. Thank you again for reaching out to us in regards to this and we will continue to provide you with prompt support and any updates that become available.
Sincerely,
Sharpenters

Poor Worksmanship and Service
The first time I sent them two high quality kitchen knives they came back acceptably sharp. The second time, the worksmanship was terrible and one knife more dull than when sent to them. They agreed to attempt to sharpen this one again but when received back it was once again dull and basically unserviceable. I requested they cancel my subscription and issue a refund since the service I paid for was never completed satisfactorily despite multiple attempts They were happy to cancel my subscription but refused to issue a refund citing details of their “terms of service”. I take this to mean that their terms of service permit them to charge for unacceptable work at inconvenience and expense to their customers. I find this to be an unacceptable business model. My experience indicates that they do poor quality work, exhibit poor quality control, and have little concern for customer satisfaction. There are other options and I plan to go elsewhere.

Greetings Steve,
We would like to take this opportunity to share publicly what we have shared privately with you via our customer service channels and we are very sorry that you were not completely satisfied with our service. We understand and take seriously your concerns. Our goal is to always provide our customers with exactly what they are expecting and we've been meeting that goal through our brand since 1965 so whenever we have someone with a negative experience, we do try and resolve it quickly and appropriately. Our Sharpness Guarantee is in place for times like this and we were delighted to give you the free service so that we could bring your knife up to our high standard. After resharpening, inspecting, testing, and shipping the knife back to you, we are quite certain that the blade was very sharp and the workmanship passed our control measures before we reshipped it back to you. Having said that, we do not want to minimize your comments about our service and we take ownership of this experience and hoped to bring this to a satisfactory conclusion for you.
As to the money-back request you made following the free resharpening, it is true that our terms enable you to have your blade resharpened at no cost to you if you are not satisfied with the initial sharpening. This guarantee is in place to ensure that all of our customers receive the service that they intended to receive without risk. We did indeed honor the sharpness guarantee but unfortunately, there are limitations to what qualifies for a refund, and being that your blade was tested for sharpness before leaving our facility (and confirmed to be within the 200 range on the Bess scale), was not in any way damaged or unserviceable and coupled with our commitment to the sharpness guarantee (a $25 value in your particular case), we do feel that you were returned with a blade that was in fact quite sharp. We still extend to you our apologies that your needs were not met and we do thank you for allowing us the opportunity.
Sincerely,
Sharpenters

Buyer beware
Very poor customer service experience, and it takes forever to get the knives sharpened Buyer beware! Poor customer service they check you into subscription service and then don’t refund you the money. If you do not use the service. I do not recommend this company at all.!
Response from SharpentersSep 21, 2023
Hi Chris,
Thank you for sharing your feedback on our service. As we do for all reviews, both positive and negative, we take this very seriously, and having looked into your account, we did find that you reached out to us via live chat on Monday, July 24th to request that we cancel your subscription. Unfortunately, that was 3 days after your subscription (purchased on July 21, 2022) had been processed and the shipping labels, protective sleeves, and packaging had been sent to you. We ask that our customers let us know prior to their renewal date if they want to cancel their subscription. We do this because when the renewal processes, we ship out the order immediately (this is to help ensure you receive your purchase in a timely manner).
We are very sorry that you do not agree with this process, and we are available to assist you in any way we can. Unfortunately, we are not able to completely satisfy your request but we can speak to you further about this if you'd like to have a conversation with our customer support team. We can be reached at [email protected] to discuss further if you'd like. We strive to deliver an excellent experience to all of our customers and are disappointed that we were not able to do this for you.
We thank you for using our service and for your positive review of your first sharpening with us...we wish you well and are here for you if you'd like to reach out.
Sincerely,
Sharpenters
