I had a very disappointing experience at the Sephora location in Plaza Portal San Ángel, Mexico City. My friend and I were simply browsing products and clearly intended to make a purchase. While we were looking around, an employee walked past us, gave us an uncomfortable look, and appeared to be watching us very closely. We then heard her speaking through her radio and saying something along the lines of, “Yes, I’m already watching her here.” After that, we felt like we were being followed throughout the store as if we were suspected of stealing, despite doing nothing inappropriate. The situation was extremely uncomfortable, embarrassing, and made us feel unwelcome as customers. We understand that loss prevention is part of retail, but no customer should feel singled out, profiled, or judged without reason. We entered the store with the intention of shopping, yet the treatment we received made us feel distrusted from the moment we started looking at products. This experience negatively affected our visit and left a very poor impression of the store. I hope management addresses this issue and ensures that all customers are treated with respect, professionalism, and courtesy.
