The worst bank in the world! Do not ever use them!

I was with Abbey Business banking previously, when this rolled over into Santander when they were purchased by them, so been a customer for years... I work in an international niche and am a Brit currently under contract in the USA. Over a week ago my biz debit card was shut down due to an 'alleged' online banking fraud. As this is the card that was paying for my motel/hire car and living expenses you can only imagine how difficult life has been. I too waited for 55mins on their useless 0800 number which burnt through my UK phone £100 buffer. I also was then also locked out of my biz account to transfer funds to my personal account which caused stress beyond belief. It's been over a week and no new debit card has been issued and sent to my UK home address? Which then at huge expense to me has to co FedEx to me in the USA. Here's a thought Santander why not allow email contact with yourselves to sort out emergency customer difficulties? Also run a WhatsApp support number so if folk are trapped in a Kafkaesque loop with you they do not loose hundreds of pounds in wasteful futile 0800 calls. As soon as this contract finishes I'm done with this terrible group.

First of all, I'm a Belgian living in Spain, so I'm aware that stuff doesn't work as well as I'm used to. But still, for a multinational bank the level of service I'm receiving is just mind baffling. The app literally doesn't work. It super user unfriendly. It feels like a 5y old made the app. I've been trying to deblock my card for the last 30 minutes now. Everytime I go out the app or I need to look up something, it block or an error occurs. It's literally giving me stress to use the app. The competence of the customer support team is also not great. Don't want to be too negative here, I feel the service of the people (cs, reception, agents) is okay. It's especially the app that is very very very bad and also should be easily fixable with the huge budget (I assume) they have.

One star is being very generous given the extraordinary incompetence and shocking contempt for longstanding customers exhibited by Santander. Moving a sum from Santander to another bank with a substantially better interest rate was a nightmare and involved my account being blocked and numerous phone calls, after waiting in queues for interminable amounts of time. The transaction EVENTUALLY went through after much perseverance. Another transaction to the SAME account has inexplicably met the same fate. However, this time the quite incredibly inept and powerless phone handlers, all working from home with no supervision or accountability apparently, have given me ever shifting and contradictory excuses as to why they are unable to unblock my account. Note that I am unable to access my OWN money with no end in sight to this debacle. Numerous fruitless calls and even broken promises of call backs from someone with the power to sort this out have got me no further forward, at a cost of whole days on the phone. All because I am trying to move my own hard earned money to a bank that can perform the most basic functions expected of it. Every procedure and process, read soundbite and inane response must surely have been designed to sicken and demoralise the customer. You have been warned, avoid Santander like a particularly virulent form of monkeypox

It doesn't surprise me that Santander have not claimed any of there Trustpilot review accounts. It also goes to show how difficult the bank is able to support many of their customers. The argument will be that out of their 100 million or so customers, the few thousand disgruntled ones aren't important. Shouting about it on here is doing nothing either. They are the best of a very bad bunch in my opinion so we all have to bear with it. The worst of it is that having already worked in customer service, I can categorially tell everyone that they really really don't care about the issues. I know this because their phone app for business has been so riddled with bugs for decades, they haven't made a single useful update . They branches are terrible, slow and difficlt to use. They are terrible in every possible way and they know it too, but they don't care, no one does, so should we?

Been waiting on the phone for 55 minutes over multiple occasions over the last 3 months because they’ve stuffed up telling Tesco bank isa transfer that my address is different to what they have. Pathetic.
