I chose to return to Egypt for the third time in 3 years because I was promised a luxury adventure of a lifetime. I paid $13,000 plus airfare and insurance for an ordeal that instead provided distant hotels, long bus rides, disjointed experiences, black mold sickness, and a general disregard for our well-being. It started when we got KICKED out of Abydos like bad schoolchildren! During the course of the trip, the host was fighting with the tour guides; the tour guides were fighting with the site guards. We were trusting to be cared for, and it didn't feel that way. Promised site visits were cancelled with no notice. Many of us studied and fasted prior to the trip and were disappointed in the lack of content and caring. The trip was obviously not well thought out. It was a disappointment to pay so much, especially because I knew what to expect and it was not forthcoming. It was a sobering experience to realize that the host, who was an individual that I thought I could admire is not a person of integrity.

Total Lack of Accountability & Failure to Deliver
In February 2025 I went on a “Luxury Expedition” to Egypt with Robert Edward Grant, that was promised to take us places no one else would go…. It sure did in the most unpleasant ways.
This trip was a huge disappointment and an absolute ripoff. We were sold an exclusive luxury expedition to Egypt that failed to deliver, was chaotic, disjointed, and riddled with issues. I paid $13,000 for the experience and flights from the US in addition.
Arrived at St. Regis New Capital hotel in the middle of desert and 1.5 hrs outside Cairo. Drivers kept getting lost because roads were half built and nobody knew their way around. In one day we travelled for 6 hours in the coaches for two different trips. We were the only tourists at the hotel. Second day there Hamas hostage exchange and celebration took place in hotel lobby. Apparently the Egyptian government was housing them there too. Of course this caused significant safety concerns. This followed by 7 nights on old disgusting ship on the Nile that had horrible smell and guests experienced mold-related respiratory problems, continuing still more than 2 weeks later.
Many promised site visits were omitted or rushed, including many significant sites such as Pyramids, Abu Simbel… one trip under the false pretense of a sand storm we later learned was not forecast but made up. Highlight of trip was to be night inside Great Pyramid where again we were left without guides or guidance and missed Queen and subterranean chambers. Guides were inconsistent, and many key features of visited sites were skipped. There was no discussion or integration and trip host Grant was more interested in his own personal pursuits, often times inappropriate. On Grant’s whim schedule would change. We were left to wander around on our own at two key sites because Grant decided we should walk in silence without the benefit of tour guides. Access to tour guides was inconsistent and often we were told to share videos. We didn’t travel all that way to watch things on a video.
Educational content and course materials promised were not delivered and presentations cancelled at last minute.
It appeared that most of the problems experienced at various sites had to do with the presence of Grant who displayed little if any cultural sensitivity at all to our host country and often conducted himself vastly inappropriately and extremely disrespectfully.
In my opinion, Grant was not at all concerned about participant’s experience, and was only interested in his small entourage of young friends, and with being filmed, photographed and posting on social media promoting himself and his new Gaia series that was released while we were in Egypt.
The trip was chaotic, poorly organized, and every day there were very last minute schedule changes often communicated very late at night.
I will avoid and strongly advise others to avoid any event offered by Robert Edward Grant in future. When these issues were raised with him he threatened to take legal action against anyone who dared to challenge him. This created considerable consternation among the group. He subsequently deleted this trip, and unfavorable reviews left in his WeTravel page and removed access to prevent about 17 people from reposting their legitimate and factual reviews. The greatest disappointment is that this man claims to be spiritual and on the path to spiritual evolution and enlightenment but his every action spoke loudly to the contrary. Caveat Emptor was never more applicable than to this individual and anything he offers!

Egyptian Nightmare: $14K, Health Issues, and Zero Accountability with Robert Edward Grant
I’m sharing this concise overview of a “luxury” trip to Egypt organized by Robert Edward Grant, priced at $12,000-$14,000 per person. Despite grand promises, the reality fell far short.
Communication & Arrival
We relied on one cluttered Telegram chat for 100+ people. Crucial updates got buried.
The St. Regis hotel was in a brand-new, nearly deserted city two hours from Cairo. Many drivers got lost on the way, making for an unsettling start.
St. Regis Experience
Unidentified men lingered in the lobby and hallways, prompting some women to seek escorts to feel safe.
We later learned these individuals may have been tied to a hostage/terrorist exchange—extremely alarming.
Rooms were okay but not the five-star luxury we expected.
On the final morning, we got boxed bread and a single slice of cold meat instead of a proper breakfast.
Boarding the Cruise Boats
The assigned Nile cruise ships were visibly old. One had retro 1980s carpet, musty odors, and dated cabins—nowhere near “high-end.”
Mold & Health Issues
Multiple attendees (including me) got sick with headaches, nausea, hives, and more. Upon inspection, visible mold was found in AC vents, bathrooms, and under mattresses.
Staff cleaned only surface areas; deeper mold remained. A sewage smell lingered in some cabins.
No significant acknowledgment or medical help was offered, even with widespread health complaints.
Disorganized Schedule & Presentations
Schedules changed constantly, shared via a Canva link on Telegram. If you lacked internet, you often missed updates.
Meals were pushed to 8:00, 9:00, or even later. Sometimes you had to sit through Robert’s talks before eating.
Robert’s presentations felt like rehashed online material, while other speakers arrived well-prepared.
He sold his book for $60, whereas other presenters offered theirs for free.
Customer Service & Threats
When I reported severe symptoms, Robert’s initial response was about countersuing mold-related lawsuits—felt more threatening than empathetic.
Asking for a refund led to threats of being put off the boat in Aswan with no help.
Only when I refused to sign a release form did they begrudgingly arrange instant refund & transport back to Cairo.
Deleted Reviews & Accountability
Negative feedback on WeTravel disappeared soon after posting.
In my view, he exploited trust for profit without genuine concern for our well-being.
Conclusion
This trip failed on every level of “luxury,” exposing us to mold, potential security risks, and disorganized schedules. Worse, Robert Edward Grant responded with legal threats rather than accountability. A sincere apology or real effort to fix the issues could have helped, but intimidation tactics overshadowed any goodwill.
