*Edit: My son scored a 1490 on the Aug. 2019 SAT and will be taking it again in Oct.* My son had 8 private tutoring sessions over the course of 6 weeks during the summer before 11th grade with his tutor, who was knowledgable, thorough and encouraging. Some context: My kid took the PSAT with zero preparation and scored a 1310. We felt targeted, intense tutoring would be more efficient than a group class with other students who may have different learning needs. His goals were to review geometry and alg2/trig concepts (he hadn't studied those in over year) and also to learn English test-taking strategies. My kid took the Aug. SAT test last weekend and after the test he said he felt confident about all of his answers, unlike when he took the PSAT last spring. I would attribute this to his tutor's EXCELLENT tutoring and also my kid's willingness to put in the hard work- which he did. So yes, it's a lot of money, but if your kid is wants to improve and is willing to do the work, the money spent will pay off.
