Best decision I've ever made. I honestly had no idea I could connect with so many people, so closely, so quickly, and truly be changed for the better just having known them, but also knowing they'll forever be in my life one way or another. Our tramily is strong, and I could not be more thankful for that! It has allowed me to comfortably step way outside my comfort zone on multiple occasions to experience amazing things this crazy world has to offer, knowing my fellow remotes are by my side and are not only there for me, but also feel the same way I do a lot of the time, so we can share that. I didn't realize how much I needed this journey... pure serendipity.

Thanks Jen! So glad to hear your Tramily (Travel + Family) is strong. At Remote Year, we strive ourselves on delivering everything that you mention above (Growth, Connections, Experiences) so awesome to hear that you hit all the points.

It's all what you make of it
It's all what you make of it.
I met one of my best friends ever, and also met my girlfriend (who is wonderful) from going on Remote Year. I also learned a ton of new skills, and actually got a bunch of work done. Before that I was a digital nomad, but I lacked structure so I barely worked and just partied a lot.
Remote Year was a great change of pace from that lifestyle, blending my partying ways with actually working. Highly recommend.

Thanks Sean! Congrats on meeting your girlfriend on Remote Year, we've had quite a few relationships and even weddings come out of a Remote Year community which is fantastic. Really appreciate the kind words and hope to see you on the road again soon!

Never want it to end!
I spent 3 years trying to make Remote Year happen, before the stars finally aligned and I was able to leave on my year long program. Remote Year is exactly what I expected it to be - and I never want it to end! Remote Year has made so many changes over the years that have improved the platform and the experience, and overall I think the experience now is the best it's ever been. I'd make this decision again and again if given the choice!

So glad to hear that Lindsey! We know it's hard sometimes to get those stars to align but when they do it really can be something beautiful. All the best and hope to see you on the road soon.

This company only cares about making money
This company does not care about their "remotes" and all they are interested in is making a fast buck and cutting corners in any way possible in order to achieve that.
Response from Remote YearAug 6, 2019
Hi Pitt,
Really sorry to hear that you feel this way. Simply making a quick buck off our Remotes is far from our objective so sorry to hear this was your take away from the experience. If you ask most of our customers they'll say that we're delivering a life changing experience with a dedicated team to help them experience, grow, and form connections along the way.
It sounds like we might have missed the mark with your experience so I would love to hear more from you about exactly what happened and how we could have done better. Please feel free to reach out to us directly at [email protected] with any further feedback you wish to share.
Best,

The best decision I've ever made
Remote Year was hands down the best year of my life! I am extremely grateful for the friendships I developed and the life changing experiences I had as a result of the program. I'm happy to be a member of this community, and continue to benefit from it through the extensive alumni programming that Remote Year offers.
I would highly recommend Remote Year to anyone that's ready for the best year of their life :-)
Response from Remote YearAug 6, 2019
Thanks Chelsea. So great to hear that not only was your year awesome but that you're making the most of Citizenship (alumni program). Remote Year is way more than just the year so happy to see that's been the case for you!

RY exceeded every expectation
If I could give Remote Year ten stars out of five, I wouldn't think twice about doing so: it is honestly that great.
When I left for my year-long program, I was excited about all of the incredible places that I would get to experience. Living in places like Thailand, Morocco, Croatia, and Colombia for a month each seemed like a dream, and I saw Remote Year as the vessel that would allow me to do so. However, I was about to be completely blown away by how much Remote Year would go above and beyond in every way: catalyzing relationships with fellow travelers, planning once in a lifetime cultural immersion experiences, and flawlessly executing on logistics. It is so much more than a work and travel program, and I can honestly say that it was the absolute best year of my life. I cannot possibly recommend Remote Year any higher.

Remote Year is the best decision I've ever made
Remote Year is one of the best decisions I've made and here's why.
1. $2,000/month is not too expensive if you consider the convenience and the community side of the benefit
- Yes, for some people $2,000 a month is a lot of money and you can definitely do it cheaper. However, there are a lot of things that you're not counting for, like countless support hours you get from the RY staff, all the connections you make along the way with the community and having somewhere to ask any questions you may have about ANY country, because most of the times, someone from the community has been there. You can't really quantify those benefits and they should definitely not be considered free.
2. They make you grow, if you're open for it
- I see a lot of bad reviews here and I have met some of them in person. From my experience, they have certain expectation of the program or certain world view that they do not wish to change or accept any other views. If you have negative attitude, you can't expect to have a good time or good experience. Yes, you're traveling the world, yes you're with 50 people. You cannot possibly expect everything to go 100% perfect and all of them to be your best friend. It's our nature to find ourselves closer to people we get along with better, if you're just complaining, no one will want to grow with you.
When I joined RY, I was a conservative person with different perspective from most of RY participants who are more on liberal side, but I joined telling myself no matter what happen, I will stay open minded and hear people's story, and by the end of the program I was happy that I decided to do so -- I got to meet and become friends with people that I would've never thought that I would become friends with when I was back in Texas.
3. It's a lot of fun!!!
- Come on, I traveled with more than 40 people who all love travel and trying new things. We jumped off the boats in Santorini together, hiked Machu Picchu together, and even ride horses through the vineyards in Argentina together. This is something people dream of in their life, and you get to do it within a year. I gained loads of friends who I will connect with for rest of my life (4 of them getting married this year) and I still tell the stories from my year.
Lastly, I just want to tell RY team that they are doing great. Sam and Greg started something beautiful that gets people together and really promote the future of work, keep it up!!

Thank you so much for the kind words Yun. I'll be sure to pass along the kind words to the team. Hope to see you on the road again soon!

Remote Year protects abusive staff members
Remote Year protects badly behaving staff over remotes.
I completed a 12-month Remote Year program and loved it. But when I joined another program as a citizen, the Remote Year staff member leading that group would regularly get drunk and high (excessive alcohol consumption and using drugs in countries where they aren't legal are both in violation of Remote Year's code of conduct). But what was worse is that under the influence he would often act in verbally and sometimes physically and sexually abusive ways. I reported him to Remote Year's third-party HR partner and an investigation was done. I was told that measures had been taken to ensure he would not partake in any more substance abuse or inappropriate behavior. In reality, Remote Year just moved him and placed him in charge of another group who didn't know his history. Sure hope he didn't hurt anyone in that group, but abusers rarely change their patterns of behavior so I'm not terribly optimistic. I left Remote Year soon after this and I would strongly encourage anyone considering a program to not participate because this company has no interest in its responsibility to keep you safe.

Hi Christina,
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. I’m sorry to hear that your experience was not positive. Remote Year’s number one priority is the safety, both physical and mental, of our participants and staff. To this end, we created our Code of Conduct along with the reporting and investigation process to address all reported violations.
We’ve chosen to work with an HR partner - Cura - who are experts in the field, to investigate the alleged Code of Conduct violations reported by our community. This allows Code of Conduct investigations to be undertaken without bias by a neutral third-party. Cura’s investigative process is thoughtful, thorough, well-documented, and includes recommended next steps from them as a third-party expert. Due to the confidential nature of all the Code of Conduct investigations, I cannot comment on this instance specifically but can confidently say that all investigations are treated very seriously and their guidance informs all follow up actions.
Thank you again for taking the time to provide this feedback and please reach out to us if you’d like to discuss your experience further.
