VPS crashed during live trading — performance and network isolation issues to be aware of
Paid $199.99/mo for their VPS Ultra+ to run automated futures trading. Server froze one morning, unreachable for an hour, had to restart it from their panel. Cost me $6,564 in trading losses.
They blamed my workload across three emails. What was running: NinjaTrader at 13.9% CPU and a Docker container at 2.8%. That's it. My home PC runs the same software plus a dozen other apps at 4% CPU — never crashes. Same core count, same workload, 6x less CPU usage at home. Their virtual cores aren't delivering what they advertise.
They also blamed Docker specifically. Docker is designed so a container crash only affects itself, not the whole server. My container was at 2.8% CPU. If that can take down the entire VM, that's an infrastructure problem, not a workload problem. I also asked about Docker compatibility before purchasing and was told it would work fine.
I found other customers' servers broadcasting on my subnet — no VLAN isolation between tenants. Every provider from $5/mo budget hosts to AWS does this by default. QuantVPS doesn't. On a platform carrying broker logins and trading data, that's a serious issue. Reported it three times, dismissed as "benign" three times.
Their fix: upgrade to dedicated at $300-450/mo. Their own help center says VPS crashes from high usage are expected. Known limitation, never disclosed before purchase.
After posting this review they tried to get it removed claiming I wasn't a customer, then emailed me repeatedly asking me to reconsider. They also offer 25% recurring referral commissions — keep that in mind when reading other reviews.
Customer service was responsive and they did refund me promptly, which I appreciate. But the product has real problems with performance and network isolation that need to be fixed before I'd recommend it for anything involving real money.

Hi Ryan,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, and for acknowledging that our support team was responsive and that a refund was issued promptly.
We want to address a few points for clarity:
On trading losses: The original support ticket referenced a system hang and stability concern, not trading losses. There was not a single mention of trading losses until hours after Ryan opened his ticket. The $6,564 figure was introduced later that day, after the customer had regained full access to the system, placed 26 trades across multiple accounts once the market opened, and lost on all of them during a sharp downward move. At that point the customer had full control of his environment and his positions. The losses were then attributed retroactively to the earlier incident and a refund was requested. We take every report seriously, but the timeline does not support a direct link between the system event and the subsequent trading losses.
On performance: Comparing CPU utilization between a virtualized environment and a bare-metal Ryzen 9700X with 190GB of RAM is not an apples-to-apples comparison. Virtual cores operate differently than dedicated physical cores, and we've never suggested otherwise. That's precisely why we offer eight tiers ranging from shared VPS through dedicated bare-metal servers, different workloads require different environments. Our chatbot confirmed Docker compatibility when asked; it was not asked whether a VPS would match the performance of a high-end local workstation, and those are two very different questions.
On Docker and the incident: A Docker container showing 2.8% CPU does not mean the guest environment is healthy. Docker reports resource usage within its own cgroup — it has no visibility into what's happening at the guest OS level. Memory leaks, swap thrashing, disk I/O saturation, or a runaway process outside the container can all destabilize a VM without the container ever reflecting it. In fact, a low-CPU container on an unresponsive VM is a classic symptom of a guest-level memory leak or resource exhaustion, the container isn't consuming CPU precisely because the system is too starved to schedule it. The reboot resolving the issue is consistent with this: it cleared the guest's memory state. If this had been a hypervisor or hardware failure, a guest reboot would not have fixed it, and other customers on the same node would have been impacted. Neither occurred.
On network isolation: This was investigated each time it was reported. Broadcast traffic on a shared subnet does not indicate a lack of tenant isolation or a security breach. Our network architecture segments tenant traffic appropriately, and at no point was any customer's data or credentials exposed to another tenant.
On the review process: We did not attempt to have this review removed by claiming you were not a customer. We verified the account and have engaged with you directly and in good faith throughout, including issuing a full refund.
We stand behind our product and our support. For any prospective customer reading this: if you're running latency-sensitive or CPU-intensive workloads like automated trading, we're always happy to help you evaluate which tier fits your requirements before you commit.
Ryan, our offer to continue working through this with you directly still stands.
