Thanks for your feedback, Brian. Like most pet insurance, our plans don’t cover pre-existing conditions – anything your pet showed signs of or was treated for before signing up or during the waiting period. Here’s where Pumpkin does things differently: not all pre-existing conditions are off the table forever. If an illness or injury is curable (think swallowed toy or kennel cough) and your pet fully recovers with no symptoms or treatment for 180 days, we could cover it if it comes back. Please note: Because knee and ligament conditions are considered incurable, they are not eligible for this exception.

While Pumpkin offers an expedited reimbursement feature for certain eligible claims, not every claim qualifies for that experience. Most claims are still processed through our standard review process, which can take several business days depending on the claim and the information available. Hi Myla,like most providers, we do not provide coverage for pre-existing conditions. This means that if something occurs, or was showing signs or symptoms prior to enrollment or during the waiting period, it would not be eligible for coverage. This includes conditions that are related to, secondary, or resultant from a pre-existing condition. Once a claim is filed, it is then processed by a Pumpkin claims team member, all of which have a veterinary medical background. Our claims team uses medical records and documentation provided by your veterinarian in order to determine coverage eligibility. Keep in mind that while we may not be able to offer coverage for pre-existing issues, new unrelated accidents or illnesses may be eligible for coverage.
