Bought a pool on line, and a small part was defective. After 4 hours on the phone and emailing, They said I could not provide them with proof of purchase, I bought on line. Regardless, they refused to replace that part which could not have cost them any more then $3.00

Company ignores manufacturing defect.
I have discovered a manufacturing defect which lead to the complete failure of four (4) sets of LED Christmas lights in less than 3 years. Maybe this sounds petty, but they were expensive. We invested in LED lights to save energy and because they were supposed to last a long time. Now 3 years later I have nothing. The company ignored my claim because I dont have a receipt, but I can prove that this is a legitimate manufacturing defect.
So, "Polygroup" is the parent company, or distributor, or whatever, for "Holiday Living" Christmas Lights sold at Lowes. Im not sure which one to direct this review at, so I may send it to all 3.
The bottom line is that this company (companies?) has completely ignored my warranty claim, because I dont have a receipt. I understand this is "policy", but I have discovered a legitimate defect from manufacturing, which (because its internal to the lights) couldn't have been caused by me (or any other human). If it happened on one (1) set or a few bulbs, you wouldnt have heard from me. But no, the same defect is present, and has ruined all four (4) of my sets.
This has been such a frustrating experience, I have to tell the whole story. So apologies for the length here, but I've got to share in hopes it will help at least someone:
I own 4 LED light sets (Item # 0477597) which I purchased a couple years back at Lowes. The lights worked fine last year and they were taken down and re-spooled on the original plastic spool they came with. The lights sat untouched until I got them out to install.
The funny thing is that I knew better than to put the lights up without testing them first, so I did. I plugged each set in, from the comfort of indoors, and they seemed fine, while still spooled-up. The lights came on (all, as far as I could tell), and everything looked great. So, I took the time to layout all my extension cords in the right places; up on the roof, 100' across my yard, etc.
It wasnt until I actually started to unravel the spool to hang the lights, that I spotted the trouble. The first set had 2 dark sections that weren’t lit up, roughly 20-30 lights each. OK, no big deal, its probably just a bulb that I can replace (I thought), so I moved to the 2nd set. Didnt even get it halfway unrolled when the same thing happened. Multiple sections of lights not working on this set either. I turned to my final two sets, and without fail THE SAME EXACT THING happened on all 4 sets.
Now, that ruined my day. I almost threw the lights out right then and moved on with life, but I didnt. See, Im stubborn and believe that my hard earned money shouldn’t go wasted. Especially after having “invested” in these LED lights to be better for the environment, last forever, yada, yada. I could’ve kept using my old-school incandescent bulbs (still could) but instead I invested in these which are supposed to save money and last a long time. Right?!?
DEFECT: I have provided a couple of pictures of what is happening. There are two metal connectors at the base of each bulb. I have found several of these have broken, inside of their green plastic casing. Through a painstakingly frustrating process of elimination, and time I didnt have, I was able to locate and replace a couple of the failing bulbs. After working on it for over an hour, and replacing 2 bulbs, I was able to get one set completely functional! Yay! Confident and excited I turned to the other sets. Even though I knew what I was doing, it was still a very tedious process of elimination! Initially I found malfunctioning bulbs by shaking the wires in a coordinated process. But that isnt working anymore! Now, I basically have to remove every bulb to find the ones that are defective. And then what?? How long before another one fails, and I spend more hours searching that out?? I used every replacement bulb they gave me, but the problem persists.
So, then I tried to get some help. First from Lowes, then from Holiday Living (the company on the box), and finally I was directed to the parent company or distributor called Polygroup. I did everything I could to negotiate with them, but my claim was completely ignored because I didnt have a receipt from 3 years ago. I cant even get them to give me a few more replacement bulbs so that I can fix the ones that are broken. “Im sure you can pick those up at local hardware store or something”. Their customer service actually said those words to me.
This cant be normal, and it cant just be me experiencing this. This is a clear manufacturing defect. One that will require me to throw-away a huge pile of 3-year old plastic lights and wires. Now deemed useless, and irreparable. Im curious about the environmental policies of these companies, because I would imagine this doesn’t fit.
I advise anyone reading this to never buy any Christmas lights from “Lowes”, “Holiday Living”, or if you manage to see “Polygroup”.
