The Pickup Music team have built an amazing educational space. Their learning pathways are detailed and cover all sorts of genres and styles. They provide personal video feedback to your video submissions for each grade, and they are very quick to reply to any questions that you may have. They bring in musicians that are active in the industry to teach their style of playing. They even have a podcast where they give insight on all sorts of topics surrounding the guitar and music. I highly recommend Pickup music for anyone looking to get to the next level.

The best intermediate learning platform for motivated players.
Pickup is the best online learning platform for motivated individuals who want to take their playing to the next level. I'm excited to see how they branch out into other instruments in the future for intermediate players. Their guitar courses have been so good for me, I never knew I was a neo-soul guitar fan until I tried the pathway.

Back to guitar
I've made rapidly Beginner levels and now the Intermediate level, too. I'm now progressing with CAGED1 pathway and plan to start Rock.
The speed of my "studies" is of course due to my earlier playing of guitar ( stopped 15 years ago and started keyboards). However I had never taken lessons on guitar.
I like the structured pathways, nice lessons and teachers. I'm full of excitement every day and try to keep improving.

A comfortable walk to understanding the fretboard
Classical Guitar taught me to read music and apply it to the fret board. Pickup music is teaching me to be comfortable moving up and down the neck of the guitar without music in front of me, and to understand at an intuitive level how it's all connected. I'm learning to improvise, and connect my ear to my fingers. I really love the community at Pickup music. It feels very supportive for players at many levels, and the self-paced lessons are great for people like me who don't have a lot of time. The weekly live lessons keep me on track, and keep the momentum going. It's been a great experience so far.

Every course I have viewed has been top notch. Very easy to understand and step by step instruction. No matter what level you are at there is something for all guitarists.

I am loving pickupmusic
I am loving pickupmusic! Last summer I was looking for a jazz guitar online course and after some research I decided to try this site. Since then I've completed a couple of grades of jazz pathway and then decided to solidify my fretboard navigation with the CAGED pathway. And then also completed a few smaller courses on funk and Hendrix CAGED approach. The latter is just awesome!
The differentiating feature of pickupmusic which is keeping me here is step-by-step lessons making it very easy to follow and make progress in small increments. A little theory, some exercises, jamalong track, integrating everything learned in performance pieces - all is very well thought thru and manageable even for a working dad:) I wish such resources were available when I first picked up the guitar many years ago!

A Surprisingly Good Guitar Educational Site
While I have played guitar for a number of years and have played in several bands you can never and should never stop learning. I felt like I was in a rut a few years back and started trying a few guitar lesson sites, actually quite a few sites now that I think about it, along with Youtube videos. While they all have good things to offer they also have some negatives. It might be cost, lack of guidance, overwhelming information, little feedback, wrong musical style, etc. I will say this, try to pick a program and stick with it. I made the mistake of jumping around to way too many sites. With that said, I saw an ad for Pickup Music on Facebook, it looked promising so I gave it a try. So far I have been pleasantly surprised. Since I'm not a beginner I was worried that the lessons would be too rudimentary for me, but I found there is ample information for intermediate and advanced players. This is not necessarily a site to learn note for note particular 'famous' songs, there are an abundance of sites and videos for that, this site is to learn the techniques and information to play and understand how those songs are structured. The lessons are well prepared and the information is presented in small bites so it's pretty easy to retain (with practice of course). There are numerous learning pathways to choose from and 'Grades' within each pathway to complete. I started with the CAGED pathway as a review of the fretboard. I have also started lessons on the lead style of David Gilmour and rhythm playing of Jimi Hendrix. The pathways are self paced so you take as much time as you need. When you complete a grade you have an opportunity to record yourself playing along with a live band. You can then upload the video and receive feedback on your playing. They also provide a quiz at the end of each grade so you can test your knowledge. There are forums, a chat interface, emails, online events, overall they do a great job of providing a sense of community. I have only been a member for about 2 months but I can see they are constantly striving to introduce new features and make improvements. Just recently they started providing guitar giveaway incentives for completing grades. I believe this site is as close to having a live teacher as possible at a fraction of the cost.
