Learning how to speak Music with PickUp :)
Pick Up is great if you are looking for a way to gain confidence and connect with your instrument on a deeper level, understanding how it is build and how to speak its language.
I've been a campfire guitarist for years and PickUp is helping me understanding why certain scales sound jazzy, what chords succession work for this emotion, etc... It's of great help if you are willing to learn how to speak music in order to finally express with it and not only perform :)

From Classical Piano to Neosoul Guitar
I came from a classical piano / church guitarist background and always wanted to dive into that more gospel/jazz/coffee shop guitar sound, and neosoul ended up being exactly what I was looking for. This pathway starts from a very basic understanding of the guitar and builds on it into what has been pretty complex, and yet incredibly exciting, for me. If you're looking to get some of that gospel, r&b, jazz, coffee shop vibe on the guitar, this is definitely the place to start!

The best lessons I've ever had
I've played guitar for more than a decade, mostly playing along with pop or rock songs and finding my way along. I'm also a a songwriter, who enjoys Bill Withers, Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits, Nina Simone, and on and on. What I've really liked about Pick-Up Music is it's given a vocabulary and fluency to my playing I've never had before. It's helped me understand why certain chord patterns work together well harmonically, and it has dramatically improved my understanding of the fretboard. It's demystified the relationships between various scales and modes, as well as the colorings of dominant and diminished chords. I know this because I can hear them and recognize them. Sam and Cecil are great teachers and the exercises are well scaffolded to keep the lessons challenging but achievable. Something Sam said in an early lesson that has stuck with me is that the skills you learn in Pick Up Music overlap and build on each other. So you're learning is not linear, but almost exponential. You learn to hear better, recognize patterns more effortlessly, and move your fingers into position more unconsciously. All of this makes practice more fun and structured, and makes your playing seem more and more outside the head and instinctive.

Hi Sam
Hi Sam. When we are older, we sometimes think back to when we were younger and how we wish we had more knowledge about music and how to play music. In this section of Beginner Learning there is a lot that is familiar, but also a lot that broadens my horizons and increases my knowledge of small and large things, which increases my enjoyment of playing. I think that review is a good thing and then new dimensions always open up.

Accountability Is A Powerful Tool
Accountability is a powerful tool for growth. Knowing that after each grade, a skilled guitarist is going to review your performance and give you honest feedback and techniques is incredible. I watched Ben review my last video and as he's watching my video, his head is bobbin and he's got that shredder face on while I'm playing, I seriously felt like I was playing a show lol. But I was also confident that I wasn't being judged, I was being critiqued and that my friends, is something we ALL need. Beyond that, the lessons are formulated so smart. Every lesson stacks upon the last one, and if you spend just a few minutes a day practicing effectively, you will get to a point where you aren't even thinking anymore and music is just flowing through you. Isn't that the goal? Where you shut your mind off and actually just flow? I'll keep it real, these lessons are the price of 1 burrito a month, 1 freaken burrito can change your musical outlook ENTIRELY. I've fallen back in love with music again, I no longer see myself as a person who just plays guitar, but instead a musician, and I'm excited to see the musician I become over the next months and years.

Lots of different styles. Excellent foundational lessons. Clearly explained and demonstrated. Production is good. It’s well organized and progresses logically
