I wish I read the reviews prior to my boyfriend buying from this. We sent it in on December 1. I reached out last month for an update and they said “it could take 5-8 weeks” which is bananas, but okay. It’s February 3 and still nothing. I feel like what was supposed to be a special moment has just been tainted by these scammers. Maybe it’s the universe saying my dog is 100% that b— and I should just leave it at that. Either way. Do NOT use. They also are switching to a new company (or bought out, I skip over the pop up every time I refresh for any update whatsoever only to be disappointed). Either way. Do NOT use.

Save your money
Save your money, I sent the kit on November 13, 2025 and they extracted the DNA on November 24, 2025 and then crickets. I called on January 16, 2026 to ask what the problem was, they said they would put a ticket in - so to me it says that they lost my sample since they sent me a PDF on my pets data and it had nothing on it. What a rip off

Pick a Different Company
This is one of the most problemic platforms and the worst customer service I've ever encountered.
Something went wrong with registration and I can't access my account. There is apparently no way to go back, which fine - maybe I messed up. But we can't even get to that conversation because the customer service bots can't handle requests that go beyond their FAQs.
I have been corresponding back and forth with customer service between December 5 and as I write this on January 10, it is still unresolved. I basically had to "pull a Karen" and ask to speak to the manager. Who by the way, did not get back to me. I doubt they even have a manager.
An issue happened with my registration, and I keep getting the same verbatim response. It's as if either AI is responding, or a respresentative is copy and pasting a response. The problem is, the response is not helpful to my situation. They are not even responding to my problem with relevance.
I knew that there is a strong liklihood that I messed up on the registration. I can accept that my mistake cost me $65. Unfortuante, but fine, I get it. What I can't get over is the amount of time I wasted over the past month trying to communicate an issue with accessing my account without receiving the proper assistance.
Choose a different company. If something goes wrong, don't count on them to even understand what's wrong, nonetheless how to make it right.

Scam company
Originally, I tried to cancel my purchase immediately after buying it after reading other reviews ancestry ignored me for over a week and a half and then shipped the product anyways a week and a half later I decided to try to use the product since I was forced to pay for it. Put my dogs stuff in two months ago still no results no answer from the company scams. They just steal your money that’s why they’re no longer available on walmart.com and other popular sites

Don’t waste your time or money
If I could give this a zero, I would. The results are laughable. My dog is a terrier mix and it’s clear in a lot of her physical features but this test said she was a poodle/pit bull mix. Are they serious?!? All you have to do is look at her to see these results are wrong. Sad to see that they aren’t honest about their results. It makes me think they used some other dog’s test!!

Wish I could give it a 0
Wish I could give it a 0. Website worked fine all the way until October 2nd when said analyzing dna and for two days now my page won't load and neither will the support page. As someone above said nothing but an unhelpful bot. Wish my kids would of read the reviews before gifting this to me.

Hey there, Cynthia, and thanks so much for reaching out to us. We're sorry to hear of any concerns about the status of your dog's test. We know that the wait for the results can be an anxious time. We wanted to reach out to let you know that, from the date that a kit reaches our lab, the testing process can take up to 8 weeks. We hope that this time frame can help to offer some reassurance.
Adding to this, we wanted to get back to you to confirm that there was a global IT outage in the last few days, impacting many companies and websites. However, our site should be running as usual now. If you're still having trouble accessing our website or reviewing your dog's test status at this stage, our support team would be happy to assist you. If that's needed, you should be able to reach us at 1-800-262-3787.
Thanks again for getting in touch so we could offer this insight. We hope this helps, and we wish you a lovely day, too!

Inaccurate results
Inaccurate results
If I could give a zero I would, I was hoping for a partially accurate test but there test is way off. AI pictures have more of an accurate option then there test. I have a 25 lb small dog /puppy in shape really no extra weight with a large head and their test says it's a chihuahua 87 % and a shih Tzu 13%. If you spending money go do the research other options available along with the negative reviews . This test is so far off and generic , not sure if they had a training class and didn't have the time to review accuracy before sending the results out. Look at Ancestry.com | BBB Better Business it shows a lot.

You don't want to read the reviews because the promise of knowing your dog's breed is so exciting..
5/1/2025 I purchased 2 Doggy DNA kits from Ancestry.com. In creating a profile, the app asks you what your best guess is as to breed of the dog. I know that I inputted "Pomeranian and Pekingese" for dog #1 as that's what we were told at his rescue. The samples were mailed back and "analyzed" and our results were posted 7/8/25. We are to believe that dog #2, our rescued mutt, is a purebred shih tzu, despite the fact that he is much bigger and looks nothing like a shih tzu. I could not recall what guess I inputted for him and it turns out there is no way to find out. Regardless, dog #1 came back exactly 50% Pomeranian 50% Pekingese. Quite curiously coincidental after the flub with dog #2. These results reflect that the samples were clearly not analyzed. I have reached out via the Ancestry process; submit a complaint on their site, and someone will email you. No one has emailed me for a week after 3 complaints. I finally called Ancestry themselves today and was told that the transaction was non-refundable. They never asked why I was requesting a refund. This was the second time I called. The first time, they put me on hold to find my account. For 10 minutes. I hung up and called back, was denied a refund, and when I questioned it, the line went quiet. The agent was still on the phone but decided not to speak anymore. This is highly unprofessional, and I just want the situation rectified.

Thanks very much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. Thanks as well for choosing our Know Your Pet DNA test to help you learn more about your dogs! We're glad you've received their results lately, though we're sorry to hear of any concerns regarding their accuracy. We wanted to reach out to let you know that we test every sample sent to us multiple times, and we also perform a series of quality checks throughout the testing process to make sure we're providing the best and most accurate results possible. Should our lab find an issue with a sample that would prevent us from providing results that we stand by, our lab will cease the testing process for that sample, and then offer you a free replacement test to repeat the process with a new and viable sample. You may also recall registering your dog's kit with a unique activation code, which helps to ensure that the results will be for your pup in particular. To calculate the results, we analyze your dog's DNA across 700,000 markers and then compare this to our reference panel to find genetic similarities. We have a fantastic article from our site on the topic of finding unexpected breeds that we hope can help to clear things up: https://support.petdna.ancestry.com/s/article/Unexpected-Breed-Results-for-Your-Pet
We hope this insight is helpful, but if you have any further queries, please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team again, who would be more than happy to review this for you further. If that's needed, you'll be able to contact us here: https://support.petdna.ancestry.com/s/contactsupport
Please note that you'll initially be met by our virtual agent, Winston, but if you type "agent" and hit send, your query will be forwarded to our team for review. When contacting us, please ensure you provide the email address connected to your Know Your Pet DNA account, and provide the following details so our team can best assist you:
- Some pictures of your dog and the reason why you think the results are incorrect.
