What I really enjoyed about the Pass Program was the aspect of being in person for lectures. Dr. Francis made his best efforts to be very personable to the point that he would call on me everyday. I had to make sure I was on my game. The lectures were amazing and his way of thinking will help you open doors in your mind you didn’t know existed. The best part hands down were the morning questions. He teaches you how to dissect a question and I use that method til this day!

The pass program has given me....A blueprint for success
The pass program has given me the confidence to enter the clinic knowing how to work through a patient's problems and develop a plan and assessment while still studying for Step 1 amidst the coronavirus pandemic. I know I am a stronger student and would recommend this program to any who have found learning via traditional methods difficult.

Amazing program
I cannot thank Dr. Francis and the tutors at Pass Program enough. Thanks to him, I now will always have his approach in mind. Thanks to his method I truly am more confident in myself and approach medicine much differently. I highly recommend this program to everyone I come across who finds themselves struggling. I wish medical schools made this program mandatory as I really do think what he teaches is the foundation of medicine.

The PASS Program is phenomenal
The PASS Program is phenomenal! When I first came to PASS I was failing miserably, not only on my exam assessments but it seemed as if my passion for medicine and discipline in general had left me. Dr. Francis’s teaching brought life to the information.
Dr. Francis presents the material in such a relatable manner, with interesting illustrations and humor along the way. Within a reasonable amount of time, I passed my CBSE/prometric NBME and have scheduled my USMLE 1 exam.
Thankful doesn’t begin to describe my gratitude for Dr. Francis and the staff at the PASS Program.
5 well-deserved stars! Click and move baby... Click and move!

A bright light for those seeking help, and specialized training that you won’t find in most medical schools or even in hospitals. Highly recommend for any medical student, regardless of level
PASS Program is a very unique training program that not only sets its mission to help bring up and encourage students who are having difficulty for any reason with their USMLE exams and school, but also to teach them how to think about medicine and understand it in ways that are not taught anywhere else. I am very thankful to have joined the PASS Program.
Before I came to the PASS Program, I wasn’t sure if I could continue medical school. I had suffered through major depression, difficulties in my personal life, and academics, for many years. I had started to think, maybe medicine just wasn’t for me. My school has always been very supportive and helpful, but they were starting to lose patience, understandably so. I was not confident in myself, and my efforts to become a doctor started to seem, so far away.
My school recommended I attend the PASS Program in Champaign, IL, based on previous students’ experiences and success there. I joined their 8-week on-site program and was immediately surprised at the amount of support that I found, as well as the things that I learned there. You are surrounded by students, advisors, and tutors, as well as Dr. Francis who are all encouraged to promote a positive atmosphere and to help each other, who you can contact at any time for help. Additionally, each student gets an individualized custom study plan (after a diagnostic NBME) that is designed with their advisor and tutor, and looked over by Dr. Francis as well, to fit your needs.
You also attend daytime lectures and morning questions, which are designed to 1) show you a new way to think and understand test questions – from the point of view of the test writer, 2) practice strategies for test taking that work, and hone test-taking skills, 3) re-learn medicine from a viewpoint that understanding normal physiology very well, can help you immediately recognize and know what to do when arriving at various pathologies and problems, 4) drill high-yield details that are asked on almost every medical exam from USMLE licensing exams to in rotations, and afterwards – because these are the most common problems that come up in practice, and 5) gain confidence in yourself! That you can do well, and not just succeed, but do very well. There are many PASS students who came before you who have not only gone on to pass their licensing exams but also become leaders in their own areas of medicine, because they are applying the things they have learned, from the PASS Program.
I went on to pass Step 1 and continue training with my medical school, and am now in rotations (currently, virtual rotations since COVID-19). During my rotations, I can already tell that I am a step ahead of most of the students- and this is from things I learned while just preparing for Step 1. I can quickly come up with a differential diagnosis, and predict what to do for most pathologies – not only from a familiarity with them specifically, but also even with problems that I haven’t heard of before. This is because I am using my understanding of what is normal, and how to return the body to that state, or at least as much as we can, while accepting and judging the pros and cons of different medical therapies.
I am confident because I know that I don’t need to know everything, I just need to know very thoroughly what the most common problems are, how to assess and treat them, and use my understanding of normal to figure out how to handle most other situations.
If you are unsure about the PASS Program, seeking help, or even just trying to become a better physician – I highly recommend that you give yourself the chance to attend the PASS Program, and change the way that you think about medicine.
Thank you, Dr. Francis! And everyone at the PASS Program.
