One star is one star too many for ParaMed Home Health Care Services. But, first let me say that the team that looks after clients in the clinic are polite, knowledgeable and helpful. It is the administrators that are abysmal. Making an appointment or getting help with their system is absolutely terrible.
On Sunday October 4th I attempted to make an appointment to have my weekly nephrology tube bandage changed. The system asks clients to select urgent and non urgent requirements. The urgent request lead to voice mail with a promise to respond within five minutes but on every occasion it has resulted in another voice mail promising a call back within two hours. The non urgent response is much the same but with a 24 hour promise.
On Sunday I gave them my name, number and reason for the call. I pointed out that they continue to have the wrong phone number in their system so I asked that they take note of my number. So while I kept my phone at my side for the day, they called my wife who was in the shower at the time and missed the call.
I saw the call eventually and called again asking for a call back at MY number. They have not called me back nor my wife. So, Monday October 5th I called again explaining that they should call me back at my number. No one has returned my call. And it is now nine days since the bandage was changed and it does not stand up to daily showers for that long.
So one star is one star to many for the new company that has this contract.

A disaster of management
Paramed recently purchased the nursing clinics owned by Closing The Gap. I am a patient at their Thorncliff Park location and since the purchase was completed, it has been a complete nightmare.
For the first week. The nurses were unable to get hold of the previous Medical Records since then there have been numerous instances of “ a nursing shortage because nurses called in sick“, in reality the nurse did not call in sick they were not booked to come in.
This is required cancellations and rebooking or waiting for half an hour to an hour to be seen despite showing up at your booked time.
The schedule or method of booking appointments is irritating as no one usually answers the phone and you are required to leave a message.
On my last visit, the nurse who I had not seen before did not bother to read my medical records and did not carry out the required treatment.
The government of Ontario should investigate as they are paying for the service services, which are usually patients with significant wounds that needs professional wound care

I'm 62yrs old
I'm 62yrs old, I live alone, I'm house bound. I've had 3 documented strokes, I am an amputee who can't walk, I use a wheelchair.
I have been with Paramed (London Ontario) for about 5yrs now.
I am to get 3 visits a day, 9am, sponge bath and breakfast, 5pm, Dinner, and 9pm, bedtime.
Tonight nobody for 9pm, I am to sleep in the top I've been wearing all day, my lights are on, I can't turn them off and my commode is at the foot of my bed where I can't reach it.
This is the most unproffessional business I've had the sad privilege of dealing with.
Now to try and sleep in a sweaty shirt with the lights on.

not a team that provides the best care possible
The recent change of the PSW service providers at the Leaside retirement residence has not been a success by any measure.
Let me list some of the reasons:
• Service that is meant to be provided in the mornings with the expectation of being prior to breakfast is not delivered in a consistent manner. The PSW, when they choose to come, can be anything between 6:30 AM and 8. The reason I say choose to come it's because they only come a couple of times a week.
o Other residents that I have talked to have indicated that the skill level of the PSW is between ignorant and incompetent. Unfortunately this has been my experience too. The incompetence may be driven by either lack of training, absence of common sense, or inadequate supervision in the early stages off their deployment.
• Unfortunately the evening service, which is meant to be subsequent to supper ( at Leaside 5:00 PM) and prior to retiring for bed. It is not unusual to see PSW’s coming into the dining room at 5:00 wondering why they have no clients available to be put to bed!
o My experience has been that anytime between 6:30 PM and 9:45 PM Is when the provider will appear.
o It is also fair to say that in the last two weeks they have failed to show up completely. That is at least until yesterday, see the next comment.
o At 8:15 PM, a ‘prima donna’ waltzed into my room, busily engaged in typing a message into her cellphone, And demanded ” is there anything you need?” without making eye contact.
Note she did not knock on entry to identify her presence
She did not say hello my name is ”Sue” or any other greeting – no name given.
When her rudeness was identified she made no attempt to apologize.
• Other residents have identified to me similar/consistent to events notified above.
• In a long term care facility, where people need assistance because of a stroke, Alzheimer's, or other ailments, their choice of dress, be being dried properly after a shower, (so they don’t have to sit in damp clothes all day). Being respectful during interactions from the PSW are procedures that are reasonable to expect, based on typical service delivered thus far this is not the case.
• A failure to deliver a service, as identified above, and given that I am not the only person the that experiences the failure of delivery indicates a systemic problem. The next question that must be asked is whether the government is being billed for services that are not being provided. This is the case then this is fraud.
• Talking to some of the PSW’s who provide the service they indicate two generic concerns
o they have to cover a number of floors in a short period of time
o And they have no control as to the number of people they have to provide the service to
o This basically suggests there is no personal relationship, or experience the either party control on to improve the service. Eldery people need routines to feel comfortable.
• Given the fact that this is a new service provider, providing services with new staff to new clients it is astonishing to think that there has been no management or supervisory follow up to ensure the service being provided meets the expectations of any of the clients, the government (who is actually paying for the service) , or the institution where the services being delivered.
The brochure ParaMed: Client Information Handbook, is distinctly misleading in that it misrepresents both the type and quality of services being delivered. The service does not help people live better at their home.
There is no evidence of a highly trained team of professionals that can provide the best care possible.

Overall poor care organization
Care policy is bad for people with dogs
They won’t come in if you can’t secure dog
PSWs not trained well at all
They don’t know how to make coffee or tea or simple sandwich
Often they don’t show up at allotted time - Left in bed for hours in the morning
Sent wrong gender for care when specially asked not too
Difficult dealing with office staff

Worst company in all of North America
Worst company in all of North America. Please if you love your loved ones, do not I repeat DO NOT use paramed. They are abusive, never complete their job, in a hurry to leave, rough with patients, zero beside manner, and called to cancel because of a light rain leaving my dad in wet poop filled diapers. Stay away

Terrible service
My wife is disabled and was happy finally get some help.
Unfortunately the company was ParaMed. The first PSW that showed up left 15 minutes early and was confrontational the second time she came.
They did send another PSW on the weekend and she was great, but does not make up for the rest of the experience. Having never had a PSW we weren't sure of what they would do. We were told that they do help with meal prep, light housekeeping, bathing etc.
After issues with the first PSW the manager came by today. Well my wife needs help to get into the bathtub and she was told they don't do that, only sponge baths. What!? Then the manager told here no housekeeping. They don't come during breakfast, lunch or dinner so meal prep is not needed. So what is the point of this company? Nothing, useless.
