Ownwell successfully protested my property tax bill and saved me a little money.

1. Communication and status updates was poor. Had to ask where Ownwell was in the process including when was the hearing. All this information was not populated until it was done. 2. Ownwell should be using the tax rates from the previous year. Not delaying the hearing to get the benefit of the rise in tax rates at the end of the cycle. 3. Ownwell should provide a physical address to mail a check. The choice of providing banking information to Ownwell or getting with credit card fees is not desirable. 4. The assessed value was what I would consider to be minimal. They should have been able to be 10% below that value based on properties in the area and data provided by Brazos County.

Hi Tom, thank you for sharing your feedback. We'd like to address each of your concerns individually and provide some additional context. 1. Communication and hearing updates: We actually sent you several emails throughout your appeal, including enrollment confirmation, notification that your appeal had been filed, and an update specifically explaining that Brazos County had begun scheduling hearings. We'd encourage you to revisit those emails, as they contain important information about your appeal's progress and what to expect next. Regarding hearing dates, as we explained in our email, hearings are coordinated with the county in bulk and often scheduled on a rolling basis. Dates appearing in county records may reflect the beginning of negotiations rather than the actual hearing date, which is why we don't provide customers with a specific date that may be misleading. It's also important to understand that one of the primary benefits of using Ownwell is that we handle the appeal process on your behalf, including representing you at hearings. Customers aren't required to attend, and in many cases, their attendance can unintentionally complicate the process. Our goal is to take that responsibility off your plate while keeping you informed of meaningful milestones along the way. 2. Tax rates and timing: As outlined in our service agreement, we calculate savings using the last known tax rate available at the time of billing. We do not delay hearings or appeals based on anticipated tax rate changes, nor can we predict whether rates will increase or decrease from one year to the next. We invoice once the county has published updated property values, allowing customers to independently verify their results. 3. Payment options: As a technology-based company, we primarily accept payments online via e-check, debit card, or credit card. There are no processing fees for e-check or debit card payments; fees apply only to credit cards. This approach helps us keep operating costs low and our services affordable. While we don't publicly list a mailing address for payments, we can make exceptions for customers who contact us and need to pay by check. 4. Appeal results: We successfully reduced your property's assessed value from $400,567 to $364,618, a reduction of approximately 9%. While we always advocate for the greatest reduction supported by the evidence, the county ultimately determines which comparable properties and valuation data are admissible and persuasive. Not all information that appears relevant to a property owner will necessarily meet the county's standards for an adjustment. If you'd like to better understand the evidence used in your appeal, our team would be happy to walk through it with you. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify these points and are glad we were able to secure a meaningful reduction in your property's assessed value. If you'd like to speak with a member of our Care Team, please reach out at 512-886-2282 or [email protected].

Such a great service! We did nothing and got our taxes lowered. Definitely worth the 25% that they take for doing all the tedious legwork.
