We have purchased Outfox field guard for our 3 dogs previously and they were good. This time around when I purchased them they smelled like pthalates (for those who don't remember what pthalates are-they smell like old shower curtains and are toxic to humans and animals) . The elastic band that goes around the neck is also too short preventing it from being opened completely for ease on/ off. Will be looking for other alternates since they have become cheap with their product.

I do love it and it works well
I do love it and it works well, but my biggest complaint is, I’ve only used it for a week and have noticed a tiny hole about 1/8” in size on the bridge of the nose about an inch above the nostrils. I called today and left a lengthy message on your phone. Hoping to hear from you on Monday. I don’t think I can fix it and I can’t afford to spend $65 every month for this item!

This COULD be an excellent product if I…
This COULD be an excellent product if I could keep my 2 little ROCK EATERS from being able to pull it off each other’s heads when playing. One of my guys can even take hers off herself with no assistance.
Apparently I’m not the only one with the issue of a pup being able to take it off. She offered the remedy of adding another strap under the chin. At the price point for the Guard, I shouldn’t even have to try to add a 3rd or 4th strap to the Guards. There are so many Labs out there that eat rocks (check out the FB groups), this Guard is being recommended to help stop it. But it only works if you can keep it on them.

Hi Kathy, thank you for your review. Please understand that the addition of a third or fourth strap is not tied to charging more for less but is to ensure protection of the dog. Specifically, the straps on the OutFox Field Guard are designed for quick release for a dog’s safety. When tethered loosely to the dog’s collar, the Field Guard, with a quick tug, can be removed from the dog’s head and the straps undone all in one motion. This is intentional so that in the event that the Field Guard gets caught on something, the quick-release straps allow the dog to pull out and separate from the Field Guard on its own. To this end, we commonly advise that it is very important not to excessively secure the product on the dog so this safety feature will not be overridden. For this reason and others, we refrain from having an extra strap at the bottom of the Field Guard and advise owners of the risks that may occur with the addition of a third or fourth strap. That is all to say that we completely understand your frustration but do have to repeat the intention of protecting dogs as the primary driver for the limitation of two straps. We hope this provides some understanding.

solid, but not perfect
I really like that the fabric has some structure to it, so it stays up off my dogs head giving lots of room to breathe, smell, bark and see. It's pretty lightweight so he doesn't seem to mind wearing all that much. I gave it 3 stars cause it does still slip off his head. I suspect if there were a few more collar loops that would be less likely to happen.

Thank you for your review. The Field Guard should not slip off. If you haven't already, we'd recommend reviewing the Comfort & Use page on our website (https://outfoxfordogs.com/pages/comfort-use) and the Comfort Guide (link within the previously mentioned page). These fitting and donning guidelines are meant to keep your dog not only comfortable but safe.
As for your suggestion, we agree, additional straps could also have the effect of alleviating your concern. However, the design and number of straps on the OutFox Field Guard are designed for quick release for your dog’s safety. The straps should be tethered loosely to the dog’s collar so that, with a quick tug, the Field Guard can be removed from the dog’s head and the straps undone all in one motion.
In the event that the Field Guard gets caught on something, the quick-release straps allow the dog to pull out and separate from the Field Guard on its own. Therefore, it is very important not to excessively secure the product on the dog so this safety feature will not be overridden. To avoid dangers such as strangulation, please use the product normally and only as intended.

Love the product but support on…
Love the product but support on returning a Field Guard of the wrong size is seriously lacking. I've left 3 voicemails and written two emails and haven't received any kind of response and its been at least 10 days since I reached out. This is disappointing to say the least. I also have been waiting for an XL mask for months and I'm not sure why these continue to be on back order and unavailable. I think these guards are genius and am grateful I've got one for one dog. Would sure be nice to have one for my other dog who has cost me a fortune in Vet bills.

Good idea, but dog chewed holes in less than a week
An amazing product that will save us hundreds in future medical bills! But after owning the foxguard for less than a week, my dog has already chewed holes in it. I guess I expected tougher construction for the price...But this is the only product out there like it and is a MUST HAVE in my rural area when the grass starts drying out.

Hi Anna, thank you for your review. We are sorry our product did not meet your expectations around strength of construction. The Field Guard is crafted with both comfort and safety in mind and is intentionally designed to be lightweight to permit air circulation while allowing it to rest lightly on a dog's head. While the Field Guard should be able to withstand normal wear and tear, we've always tried to make it clear, particularly in our Care and Warnings page on our site (https://outfoxfordogs.com/pages/use-care-warnings-and-disclaimer), that the Field Guard is not indestructible or chew-proof. We encourage you to reach out to us at [email protected] to discuss your concern further.
