User friendly. Really good!
Like others here I've been using olt's free tier for my expat federal return for years and it's always been really good. User friendly, good software. Thanks OLT!

You'd think a tax prep software company would be aware that people residing in the US are not the only ones who have to file US tax returns. US CITIZENS RESIDING ABROAD ALSO NEED TO FILE TAX RETURNS! And yet, the only way they'll let me access their site is if I use a VPN. And even then, logging in will frequently just send me in an endless loop back to the main page.

I've been using OLT for the last 20+ yrs. Always very happy. The format is easy to use with common sense. The added cost of representation, on-line chat or phone in help is reassuring although I've never been audited or had a rejected filing. This year,2025, there was a minor glitch in a transmission error but it was corrected within 24 hours. My returns were ultimately accepted and proof came in the form of e-mail. You can print hard copies as well. Why pay more for what is essentially a no-brainer?!

I will never use them again. Both my tax returns for federal and state kept coming back rejected. Hard to get help.

OLT lowered their qualifying AGI to $51K this year, luckily their are still online tax software providers that have a max of $89K. They can be found on the IRS website.

I've used OLT for about 15 years. Retired with a pension and investment income. The only problem I have every year is getting the software to understand I don't pay State taxes on my income. I always need help with that step. Knowing this, I always pay the small fee for chat or phone assistance which has done the trick quickly.

I previously used to use very manual Free File Fillable Forms. I wanted to move to better software because it doesn't support amended returns at all. OLT seemed to fit the bill! So I started an amended return for a prior year, completed it then had an issue paying the fee as it wouldn't accept my credit card. I had to message support who said they were working on it. Which is fine, I understand. But I came back a few months later to try and finish and pay, and since then they have added a warning field saying you can't make an amended return unless you've used OLT to file the original return!! This makes OLT completely unusable for me. I was planning to use OLT for all my filing needs including my upcoming 2025 return too, but now won't be. It's pretty silly because the amended return seems like a great onboarding mechanism for new customers like myself. What a bad experience, I recommend against anybody ever using OLT. You may end up spending hours fill out all your taxes and at the 11th hour they decide they don't want you to be able to submit it.
