I hadn’t had a great arbequina in years, so when I read the New York Times article, I decided to try Olive Oil Jones. The price seemed fair, and it included shipping, so I placed my order. It arrived soon after, nicely and securely packaged. The color is a beautiful yellow with chartreuse undertones. It is the tiniest bit cloudy, confirming it has not had all its flavor filtered out. A chef friend and I decided to open it up and give it a taste. It has a very buttery feel in the mouth, with a bit of forward acidity and herbaceousness, and that slight bit of bitterness and burn at the back of the throat. I think it’s even better than one I had several years ago! I have used it fresh from the bottle and drizzled it into salads (both savory and fruit), sautéed eggplant, and seared mushrooms. And a zillion other things! It’s a fine olive oil, neutral enough for most uses, with enough character to be noticed.
