I’ve only been on the program for 10 days, but so far I’m noticing a change in my desire to have even one drink. When I have had one drink I didn’t continue to drink more than just one. The coaching and medical advice has been helpful.

Congratulations on a strong start and the changes you are noticing in terms of less desire for alcohol and an easier time stopping after one drink. I'm glad to hear our team of medical professionals and coaches has been able to provide helpful support as you work toward your goals. Keep it up, and thank you for sharing your experience so far! Jonathan. Founder, Oar Health.

So far I am very encouraged that I can make progress so quickly in reducing my drinking. It has definitely helped me to change my amount of drinking the only problem I have is that I am still dependent on the effects of alcohol and have to keep going without drinking while I get used to feeling cranky, anxious and stressed. I’m assuming that this will improve over time as my dependence is lessened, but it’s been kinda hard at times.

Thank you for sharing your experience so insightfully and thoughtfully! I agree that you should feel encouraged by the reductions in how much you are drinking. As you note, adjusting to less alcohol after years of depending on it can bring up a lot of challenging feelings. It is reasonable to expect these feelings to dissipate over time as we adjust to a new lifestyle, but we can sometimes help that progression along through mindfulness practices and doing more of activities that activate natural, healthy reward pathways. Your Oar Health coach can help you make a plan if that is of interest. Most importantly, keep the progress going and keep taking the long view. This is a marathon, not a sprint! Jonathan. Founder, Oar Health.

This has been a godsend. Most people don't seek treatment because they deny the truth. When they recognize the truth, shame stops them from seeking treatment. AA, while admirable, is not for everyone especially if you just want to cut down. I was in that category. Covid took me down the 'let's drink' path. I was always functional but it did interfere with my interaction with my husband. That wasn't fair to him. I started on Naltrexone last week. I have already cut my drinking in half and the urge to drink is gone!

Thank you for sharing your experience so thoughtfully. I am confident it will inspire others to take the hard, but critical step to find a treatment option that fits them. You are certainly not alone in seeing drinking increase during COVID nor in seeing negative impacts on important relationships. What you should be quite proud of is that you recognized the trend, found a treatment option that fit you and your goals, and are now following through to make progress toward your goals. Keep up the good work and thank you again, Jonathan. Founder, Oar Health.

Truly started feeling the effects after a few days. Cut my drinking in half in the first week and continue to feel better and drink less. Looking forward to continued growth.
